Spells and stuff

My nan is 90 today. Bless her heart. Happy birthday, Nan! ♥

I've been rushed off my feet at work this week but I did find time to have a look at the books left by the book man. One of them was a book of essential spells, which I may buy just for the sheer comedy value because it caused much merriment plus several calls of 'Ewwww', 'Noooooo!' and ' ( Read more... )

First up, happy birthday to your Nan. :D

Now, onto the fish... Smothering? Probably best I just zip it. I'm suppressing all gags relating to fishy odours & pelvic floor muscles. :P

I must admit, I found the very earnest reviews of the book (on Amazon) hysterical. So, why did you buy it? Is there someone specific you want to hex? should JtD watch his back?

It was £5 and I can envision hours of entertainment emanating from it! I'll keep it at work and dig it out whenever someone particularly vexes me. ;-)

I've already suggested a few spells to Tracy in the vain hope that she might actually feed something revolting to JtD.

Ahh, random acts of shopping. You can't beat it. :D I trust you've left the book in a prominent place at work? ;)

Good luck with JtD tonight. Have you passed on any 'cooking tips' from your recent purchase to the BBQ's host?

Yes happy birthday to your grandmother!

I don't fancy a fish wriggling in my privates - sounds rather slimy to me.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like Keira Knightley. She's okay in Pirates of the Carribean, but that could be because Johnny Depp is in it! :)

It's rather costly to trace your family tree isn't it? I was talking to the registrar in work and she said certificates are £7 each. I am sure you will unravel plenty of interesting things.

Just the thought of a fish wriggling near my nether regions makes me want to run shrieking from the room!

I can't bear Keira Knightley. The only time I've found her barely tolerable is in Pride and Prejudice.

It can be expensive. I've got a fair sized collection of birth, marriage and death certificates now and, you're right, they're £7 a pop. I find it fascinating though. It's satisfying and frustrating all at the same time but when you find another generation back, it's a real buzz. Well, it is if you're a geek like me.

You never know you might come across a relative of yours who was burnt as a witch or hanged for stealing a pig!

It's easier if you have an unusual surname. We know my father's name originates in Southern Ireland, County Corke. I kept my maiden name and only double barrelled it when we had James. It's a dying surname because most of those with the name keep having girls.

If you're a Jones or Murphy in Wales looking back at your family tree is so much harder.

I'm sure you can do some of the research on the net now.

I don't know what it is about Keira Knightley, but the actress who really goes through me is Renee Zewellger. I just cringe!

I'm back to the late 1700s or early 1800s on most strands, further on others. My maternal grandfather's parents are proving tough to pin down though.

My own surname is very unusual so tracking that hasn't been too difficult but there are other surnames in the line that are much more common, and it gets more difficult to find the needle in the haystack that you are looking for.

I'm not a big fan of Renee Zellweger either but Keira Knightley beats her hands down in the irritability factor for me!
