I have been wondering this for several episodes now, so - what about the air conditioning? O_o

Well, obviously, without electricity there was no A/C. But for about a week after the storm, the temperatures were very mild, and it was cool enough to sleep even without it.

We remarked on it at the time -- that if we'd gone straight from the tornado into a week without power AND a heat wave like we're having now (our average temps this week are supposed to be in the mid to upper 90's, just like last week), it would have been a MUCH more miserable experience.

Honestly, my take on the no A/C thing is that, in this climate, as a back-up you need to have working screen windows (we do not, our windows are painted shut and I am almost done repairing/replacing screens) and screen doors (need replaced - missing) - and if possible, a screen porch out-of doors (on the drawing board).

You already know my thoughts on the irresponsible government officials and the lack of information you labored under, and the fooferah about the stupid royal wedding being considered more important than your disaster. Shame on all those who ignored you.

Absolutely -- you could NOT stay in a closed-up house in the summer in Carolina.

In the North Carolina mountains, we had a very useful thing called an "attic fan." In the evenings, we'd open the house up and turn on the attic fan, and it would pull the cool air into the house. Then when the house was cool, we'd close it up and pull the blinds, and the house stayed cool until the next evening. But that was in a much cooler climate.
