Summer Reading Challenge, 2011

There are lots of ways to do a summer reading challenge. As a child, I would sign up each summer for the summer reading program at my branch library, diligently filling out my sheets with lists of titles and authors and (I have never seen or heard of this anywhere else) making my oral book report to the librarian who manned the summer reading club ( Read more... )

It's unkind to tease people with promises of books and victory. :p

Seriously though, I never did book competitions as a kid beyond the pizza hut thing because they were so easy for me that they weren't even a joke, just disappointing. My mom bought me books galore and I certainly had toys, but... There was no winning.

You would have liked ours. It had a top reader board with recognition at the end of summer event.

For me, the prizes actually were important--not that my parents didn't buy me any books at all, but for the area in which I grew up we were definitely below average, and so the summer book club was for me a major source of books.

I was afraid of the same thing with The White Mountains. Happily, it held up very well for me! Yay!
