‘I can’t believe you persuaded me to do this’ Maria said from the bathroom, where she fixed her hair, winding long, dark curls into an elegant bun at the back of her head, before holding it there with a diamante clip.

‘It’s because you love me’ Sarah Jane said in a sing song voice from just outside the door, having been locked out of the bathroom half an hour ago. She glanced down at her watch and sighed. ‘But if you don’t hurry up, we’ll be late’.

‘This is a UNIT ball, I’m pretty sure that us being late isn’t going to be a big deal’ Maria said, even as she put in her earrings and gave herself the once over in the mirror. Pleased with her look, she glided over to the door and unlocked it, before emerging in the hallway. ‘Voila’.

Sarah Jane had always thought Maria to be breathtaking, but at that moment, she was speechless at the woman’s beauty. The dark purple dress clung to all the right curves on Maria’s body, giving her the natural hourglass look. Her hair was up for once, coiled delicately up to the back of her head, few curls escaping to frame her face, to reveal silver earrings and a simple diamond necklace.

Her wedding ring glinted on her finger.

‘You look beautiful’ Sarah managed to say, as Maria smiled at her, before descending the stairs, and reaching for the front door. Turning at the last moment, Maria looked at Sarah Jane in mock seriousness.

‘Remember, this is a formal ball. Strictly no trying to seduce me until we get home. Ok?’

Sarah Jane pouted playfully before taking Maria’s hand, ‘I’ll try my best, but no promises’.
