Flower: Orchid
Meaning: Beauty

The first strips of daylight made their way through the curtains, falling across the double bed, where one occupant was asleep, the other propped upon an elbow and looking down at her sleeping lover.

Maria did not dare touch Sarah Jane in case she broke this perfect moment. The delicate sunlight played across Sarah’s face, half lighting it and casting the rest into shadow, depicting out her features. Errant pieces of hair fanned themselves out against the white of the pillow, the auburn hue complimenting tanned skin as pieces fell across her cheeks. Maria suppressed the urge to stroke away those pieces, and instead let her fingers lightly dance across the woman’s fingertips.

Her face was a picture of tranquillity when she slept. Her face wiped clean of the worries and fears that haunted her during their save the world days, and was instead peaceful, which Maria was thankful for. Her lover deserved the peace, even if it were short lived.

As the sunlight intensified, she watched Sarah’s eyes flit under her eyelids, and watched and waited as she awoke. Hazel eyes, still bleary with sleep blinked up at her, returning her gaze, as well as a small smile.

‘Have you ever heard it’s not polite to stare?’ she said playfully, as Maria bought a hand round to cup her cheek.

‘I guess, but all rules have an exception. And your beauty just happens to be that exception’.
