Title: Chosen. Rating: PG-13 Summary: They stole him. Just a little. Seconds of him, snatched out of time, out of space, taken beyond the World. To protect it. To protect Him.
This is such a gorgeous story. I LOVE seeing Ianto like this, taking charge and being more than human and saving the world. Such a brilliant connection between the fairies and the 456, the children! Just lovely.
When I was writing it I was so worried that someone would write another where the Faeries pitch up and taken on the 456 but I didn't come across one so - phew! But I do wish they had been in COE...
And Ianto - I love how take charge he can be. He is in the series, he'd have to be to do what he did for Lisa so I always write Ianto as strong, even when he's breaking.
Yes, I think Ianto has proven more than once that he is essentially strong and capable, and I think he'd definitely be like that under pressure. One of the things I liked about CoE was that Ianto was clearly the one who was keeping Jack anchored, and it all went to hell once Ianto was gone.
In some ways CoE is so good, but there really are some WTF elements in the plot. The faeries should definitely have been in there; it could have been such a powerful showdown between them and the 456. Instead, it seemed a kind of Doctor Who wannabe finale, with none of the weirdly hopeful and positive endings that DW gives us. Thanks again; THIS is what CoE should have been like!
"Something about the man is wrong" - agree. 1st time e 'met' Dekker my skin crawled (really hope that's what the actor -now forever known as Dekker-meant to happen :-}) "has no idea why he didn't try shooting the hoses feeding the tank." - yup. RTD blew it missing that obvious way out when he reached for his idea of 'drama'.
I always thought that RTD had the basics of a good story in COE but he just didn't push the envelope. Perhaps he was too intimidated by being on BBC One or something but he missed so many obvious mistakes that it was really flawed.
But Dekker was creepy - creepier than the 456 and I so wanted him to be like their human puppet! But no... He was just another character.
