So the story goes something like this. Once upon a time a girl decided she needed to change her life. She gathered up some willpower and affected a 180 on her life. It was excruciating but she did it. At the end of a 5 month period the girl discovers that instead of a happy light at the end of the tunnel there was a dark ominous mountain. The ( Read more... )

It doesn't have to be alone. Leaning on any one person is bad, but you have a lot of friends that would love to support you through any changes you need to make. I know I speak for Nic as well as myself.

We love you.
We find you worth loving.

There are a lot of things that work. Different things for different people. You'll find yours.

And in the meantime, there's nothing wrong with getting support from people who love you. Because we do. And that's what we're here for. :: hugs ::

Regardless of what you want, a part of your self-image *does* depend on others. So surround yourself with people who appreciate you for you. They will give you the strength to build your own image. Weed out those who do nothing but hurt you. You need to do some soul serching and decide who YOU are. After that, let people into your life that fits that. Do not let popular trends and opinions decide that for you. If you are happy being a fat smoker, then be a fat smoker and weed out the people who will constantly nag you about losing weight and stopping smoking. You must live your life. You are the only person you spend forever with, but you are also part of humanity.

Thus ends the old man's lesson

Some humans like to take advantage of their fellow humans. They see that we exist in a spiritual void, and they see that they can use this void to manipulate others, so they do. They twist the void like a knife, and then oh so generously offer "salvation". This is why Christianity teaches people to hate themselves. I believe that the upper hierarchy of the medieval church were atheists.

I don't think you fully understand the concept of Christianity... oneiromancer666 April 27 2007, 04:24:06 UTC
...or at the very least you believe mainstream Christianity is the truth. It is not. I won't be naive enough to debate this (or for lack of a better term talk) via livejournal. If you want to talk more about it my name is Sea Bertolino. Feel free to facebook me or email me at bertoli5@msu.edu. Oh a word of warning...I have no idea who you are or what you believe. If you do see my facebook profile...I have a lot of 'religious' stuff on there...don't let it scare you away. I wasn't always a Christian. Oh and since I know Renee will be reading this...thanks for not telling you changed your number. B-p Hope everything gets better. B-)

Re: Perspectives oneiromancer666 April 27 2007, 15:30:12 UTC
I was raised Christian. At one point in my life I had decided to enter the clergy; my mind was deeply entrenched in the Christian perspective. As my intellect matured I gradually rejected the absurdities of the Christian belief system. I know Christianity intimately, from the inside, and after studying history I now know it from the outside as well.
You say that I do not understand the concept of Christianity because I cast your beloved religion in a unfavorable light that conflicts with your perspective. I say that you do not understand the true underlying metaconcepts of Christianity because you are willfully ignorant of history and human psychology.

Those are quite the assumptions you are making about me. I did ask you to contact me directly, but if you wish to talk like this I suppose we can. I am not willfully ignorant of anything. I have studied Christianity historically, psychologically, archaeologically and, actually. I have done all those things and in addition have done cross cultural and religious studies in a compare and contrast form. In short, I have, am, and will continue to study Jesus Christ, the Bible, and anything relating to thereof for the rest of my life. Now, I've been doing this for about 2 years now as that's how long I've been a Christian. I never had blind faith or faith like a child. I had to research it to come to my conclusions. So, in effect, your scrutinizing me for what you think I have or have not done is not valid. Further, your casting my beloved religion in an unfavorable light doesn't do anything to me except opens a window to say 'hey, let's talk'. I think it's cool that at one point you wanted to join the clergy and I am curious as ( ... )
