Sungmin ran.
Faster.
And faster.
And even faster.
It was like he couldn’t get away fast enough. He couldn’t get far enough away from that house. From those people.
His “parents”.
How could they do that?
To their son?
His “friends”.
Why would they betray him like that?
What did he do?
He’d done everything he could as son and friend. He’d accepted their flaws.
Why wouldn’t they accept his?
All he did was bring his boyfriend home.
Soon as they’d walked through the door hand in hand people began to yell at him. They called him dirty. They called them trash. They threw things at them. Then they yelled some more. His boyfriend couldn’t take it and left Sungmin alone.
Finally he left too.
He had enough money in his pocket to get himself started on his own; there was no need to go back.
If he was so dirty they wouldn’t mind if he left them.
After a while Sungmin reached the playground about a mile from his house. He hadn’t come here in years. He sat on the swings and thought about the past. How the kids used to pick on him. They would dump sand in his hair and beat him up because he liked the color pink and other cute things.
He slowly pushed himself back and forth; finally letting the tears fall. Where was he supposed to go? He had no close family, and all of his friends thought he was some sort of disease. Sungmin sniffed, he would be sad for tonight, but just tonight. Tomorrow he needed to find a job and place to live. Somewhere close to school. He couldn’t give up school.
“Sungmin-hyung!” a voice called.
Sungmin jumped up, prepared to run away, but he was tackled.
“Hyung?” Donghae pouted, “Where are you going? Why are you crying?”
Sungmin closed his eyes and sighed. He had wanted to avoid Donghae. He didn’t want the boy to worry about him. He didn’t want to be a burden to the only friend he had left.
“Donghae-ah!” a very worried voice approached.
“I’m here, Hyukkie!” Donghae called back, standing up and pulling Sungmin with him.
A man with platinum blonde hair and a strong jaw came running up. He was followed by a tall and lanky man with curly hair, beautiful eyes and really nice lips.
“Hae why did you run like that?” the blonde asked, placing both hands on the other’s shoulders.
“Because I saw Sungmin-hyung.” Donghae said innocently, pointing, “Remember I told you about him? I saw him and he looked sad so I wanted to cheer him up.” Turning to Sungmin, Donghae grinned, showing all his teeth, “Hyung this is my boyfriend Hyukjae-ah and our friend Kyuhyun-ah.”
Sungmin bowed and bit back the tears of envy at how happy Donghae and Hyukjae looked.
“It’s nice to meet you Sungmin,” Hyukjae bowed his head, “but I really think I should take Donghae home before his parents get upset. Kyuhyun will walk you home.”
Kyuhyun finally seemed to come into the conversation because he blinked and said, “But hyung!”
“Please?” Donghae begged, “I’ll let buy you that new game you wanted.”
“Deal.” Kyuhyun agreed.
Donghae smiled and walked off with his boyfriend, arms wrapped tightly around each other.
Soon as they were out of sight Sungmin sighed and sat back down on the swings.
“So, where do you live?” Kyuhyun asked, trying to break the silence.
“I got kicked out today.” Sungmin whispered.
Kyuhyun blinked in surprise. He recognized Sungmin from school. He was always so bright and happy, almost like a ray of sunshine. His presence always made Kyuhyun smile. But right now Sungmin looked so empty. His voice so emotionless. Kyuhyun didn’t know what he was doing but in the next minute he had wrapped Sungmin up in a tight hug.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered, “I don’t know what to say. But, this what my sister would do when I would get sad before I moved out.”
“Why’d you leave?” Sungmin whispered.
“…My parents found out I was gay…” Kyuhyun closed his eyes, expecting Sungmin to pull away, call him disgusting, or any of the other things his own parents had said. But that’s not what happened. Instead Sungmin began to giggle.
Kyuhyun blinked and took a step back.
“Yah, what’s so funny?”
“That’s the same thing that happened to me.” Sungmin giggled.
Kyuhyun chuckled, and it was as if for a minute the sun came out.
“Hey, why don’t you live in with me?” Kyuhyun asked.
Sungmin stopped giggling and looked serious all of a sudden. The sun went back behind the clouds. “I don’t want your charity. I can take care of myself.”
“Okay,” Kyuhyun said, “so how about you pay a one hundred fifty dollar rent each month?”
“Isn’t that too little?” Sungmin asked.
“Can you cook?” Kyuhyun already knew the answer to the question; he’d heard Sungmin was even better at cooking than Kim Ryeowook.
“Yes,” Sungmin responded, a little confused.
“Then you will cook our meals too. Do we have a deal?”
Sungmin hesitated a minute before he took Kyuhyun’s hand and shook it.
If he were being honest Kyuhyun would have to admit that he’d had a crush on Lee Sungmin for the past two years. So he was more than a little happy when Sungmin agreed to live with him. Also, more than a little embarrassed when he opened the door of his apartment and realized how much of a mess it was.
“Um…” Kyuhyun awkwardly scratched the back of his head, “yeah, I don’t usually have company.”
“I’ll clean too.” Sungmin said.
Kyuhyun smiled, “Okay, here let me show you where everything is.”
As Kyuhyun gave him a tour of the house Sungmin couldn’t help but feel like the man in front of him was the most adorable thing he’d ever seen. He could be slightly clumsy but he was very sweet.
“And in here is your room.” Kyuhyun said, opening the door.
Sungmin’s new room was pretty basic. It had four walls, a bed, a dresser, a closet and an adjoining bathroom.
“If you want tomorrow we can go out and buy some paint, and you probably need some clothes, here let me get you something to sleep in.” Kyuhyun said, turning to leave.
“Kyuhyun,” Sungmin called, making him pause, “thank you.”
Kyuhyun smiled and gave Sungmin one last quick hug before leaving to get something to sleep in.
Over the next few months Sungmin and Kyuhyun began to grow closer. It got to the point where Sungmin realized one night as they ate dinner that he had already fallen for the younger.
“So confess to him.” Sungmin’s neighbor Heechul told him one day when they were out grocery shopping.
“Tell me again why you’re the one doing the shopping and not Hangeng?” Sungmin asked, picking up a couple apples.
“Because Hannie is busy fixing the sink,” Heechul sighed, “and he doesn’t know what type of food to buy Heebum.”
Sungmin nodded in understanding.
“But back to you and Kyuhyun. Just tell him that you love him.” Heechul said, carefully inspecting the cat food section.
“How?” Sungmin sighed. “It’s not like I can just sit down at dinner tonight and say, ‘Hey Kyu, I made beef and oh yeah, I’m in love with you.’ What if he rejects me? I’ll have to move out.”
“No you won’t that idiot can’t live without you, and he’s not so stupid to throw you out. Now come on I’m ready to check out.”
That night Sungmin made sure to make Kyuhyun a really nice dinner and even put a couple of candles out. He took a deep breathe to try and calm his heart rate down when he heard the front door open signaling Kyuhyun’s return home.
“I’m home!” Kyuhyun called out and Sungmin thought his heart was going to explode from his chest from nerves.
“Hyung,” Kyuhyun said, holding something behind his back, “there’s something I need to tell you. And I hope you can honestly accept what I’m about to say.”
“O-okay.” Sungmin nodded.
Kyuhyun took a deep breath and pulled out a bouquet of flowers from behind his back.
“Lee Sungmin,” Kyuhyun said holding the flowers out, “I love you. Will you please accept my heart?”
Slowly Kyuhyun looked up at Sungmin and felt fear grip his heart when the older had his face buried in his hands looking as if he was crying. Kyuhyun’s first thought was that Sungmin just didn’t know how to turn him down properly. He felt tears prick the back of his eyes and he let his arm drop to his side. Head low Kyuhyun began to exit the dining room so he could curl into a little ball on his bed and sulk for the rest of his natural life.
“Where are you going?” Sungmin asked.
Kyuhyun shrugged, not fully trusting his voice.
“Kyuuuuuu,” Sungmin put every bit of ageyo in his voice as he walked around to stand in front of Kyuhyun, “hey Kyu? Can I tell you something?”
Kyuhyun shrugged again.
Sungmin reached up and grabbed the back of Kyuhyun’s neck to pull him down so he was eye level with Sungmin, their lips an inch apart.
“I love you too.”
With that Sungmin crashed their lips together, something that he’s honestly wanted to do for quite a while.
It took Kyuhyun a minute to register what was happening but soon as he did, he grabbed Sungmin by the waist and pulled him closer. He kissed him back with everything he had.
After a while the two had to break for air but within half a second their lips were reattached to each other. They kissed over and over, and each time it got hungrier and hungrier. Eventually they landed on the bed; where they made love several times that night.
Sungmin woke up to the feeling of light kisses being placed all over his back. He rolled over and smiled at Kyuhyun before snuggling closer.
“Good morning.” Kyuhyun whispered.
“Morning.” Sungmin said into Kyuhyun’s chest.
“Are you feeling okay? You’re not sore anywhere?”
Sungmin smiled, “No, I’m fine.”
“Fine enough to have some fun?” Kyuhyun asked, and Sungmin could hear the smirk in his voice.
“Maybe.” Sungmin smirked.
Kyuhyun rolled them over so he was hovering over Sungmin and began to press kisses up the elder’s neck. He took extra care of kissing the marks he left from the night before. When he got to Sungmin’s mouth he whispered, “I love you” before he placed a sweet kiss on his lips.
“I love you too,” Sungmin whispered and kissed him back.
