I have that feeling very often. But probably because I moved countries, I can't really remember most of my childhood so clearly. But it's always nice when something like a stray smell reminds me of something from years and years ago.
For the sleep, try cherry juice (or anything else with melatonin), multivitamins, and getting up and going to bed again on a very precise schedule. I have a shower before bed and listen to opera at night nowadays and that is good. The night-time talk radio is also interesting if it's hard to just lie there.
Are you having nightmares or finding yourself waking up crying?
For apathy I can recommend nothing more than just making an effort to do things, even if it's just for the sake of it. Eventually it will go away, though it is tough.
You seem pretty melancholy. I remember first feeling that really distinct, indescribable, and private feeling when I was as young as I can remember being.. It was like sadness without anxiety.
Take care and I will send you good wishes from the other side of the world. :)
I've been prescribed stuff but it's not working. It's really frustrating. I would think that as tired and lethargic as I am I could actually manage to sleep through the night, but noooooo
Hmm this might sound totally crazy, but it may work.
Maybe try staying up a full 24 hours? Hopefully, by the end of it, you'd be so tired you'd sleep through the night and thus kinda redo your body's sleep schedule? I've only done anything like this during finals week, but I know after an all-nighter, I'm exhausted.
If not, I've heard on lifehacker that not eating anything for 12-16 hours before the time you'd eat breakfast (or your first meal of the day if you're like me and skip breakfast) is supposed to reprogram your body's sleep pattern. So, for example, if you'd want to wake up and eat breakfast at 10 AM the next day, you wouldn't eat anything after 6PM (if you're doing the 16 hour one) or 10PM (for the 12 hour one). The theory behind it is that our sleep cycles are not just regulated by light but by food intake as well.
