So here's a question - is yoga supposed to completely kick your ass? Not to mention any ability I had to balance was left in high school - I'm sure the people in the apartment below me love me for flopping around during brief interludes at 6:00ish in the morning. Maybe they're deep sleepers

Yeah, yoga is suppose to kick your ass! It's an amazing workout. It doesn't get the credit it deserves.
I think you'd be an amazing teacher. You're very good with people. And those things you described your anatomy teachers as - you posses all of those qualities. If you're this good now, imagine how amazing you'll be in a few years.
I think it is this culture to some extent. I also think it's human nature. Learning to be completely content with yourself and your situation is amazing, but you also have to keep dreaming to keep moving forward. And I don't think contentment and wanting are mutually exclusive either. Maybe in the moment, but I know that I've had both in the same day. And - maybe you can learn to be content with your life, including being content with your dreams and yearnings. (And I liked that part of the yoga. It was thought provoking.)
I'm glad the new arrangement is working out :)
