“What do you mean I can’t go? I’ve been looking forward to this trip to Bwali for ages now! What am I going to tell Qunci?”

“Tell that red headed wench what you want. I still haven’t forgiven her, you know. And you are with child, that’s how! You’re going to walk up this plank
to Gwiboon where you can be properly watched!”

“Properly?!” Eunsook sputtered. ”What am I a dog? I don’t need to be properly anything, you overgrown blarmy hornswaggler.”

Minho rolled his eyes. “That’s real mature, Eunsook.”

“Well, if I can’t go, I’m taking Thatcher with me, then!”

“Oh, no you’re not! He has to learn!”

“Learn what?!”

“How to be a man,” Minho said simply.

“HE’S SIX!”

“AND THAT’S A MAN!”

Jinki, who trailed behind them, rolled his eyes as well, while the couple slowly made their way up the plank to the deck of Keshla. When they finally set foot onto the barge, Minho and Eunsook were still arguing, loudly, but Jinki had to laugh. Minho was overprotective to a fault, especially with Eunsook carrying their second child, and it seemed he found every chance he could to ruin her fun under the banner of keeping her safe. Still, it was endearing to see how he would dote over her and their son, always eager to get back to land and back to their home. A good balance for two very crazy people.

When Jonghyun and Gwiboon walked out on the deck of the ship, the squabbling ceased as Eunsook squealed at seeing her friend and Gwiboon picked up her skirts and ran into Eunsook’s arms. They did this every month, as if they’d never see each other again. Both husbands were used to it and had learned to ignore the high pitched hollering each and every time.

Gwiboon, once one of the most famous courtesans in all of Zahr was now simply a merchant’s wife. The money that came from Minho’s contract with Gwiboon years ago was funneled and used as seed money to turn Keshla from a pleasure barge into one of the most profitable floating merchant ships in all of Market Bay. The girls, too, were relieved of their courtesan duties and now worked for Jonghyun in a different capacity. Taking the perfumes and makeup that the merchant would buy off of Minho, they would go from estate to estate to teach the ladies of Malvasi how to use it effectively. The small courses they would run on seduction to the highborn ladies of Market Bay didn’t hurt sales either.

Jongin and Taemin had teamed up together and turned the escorting business upside down, using their talents to bring in waves of customer to Keshla, while Kyungsoo, now the account aboard the merchant ship, found way to maximize their profits. All in all, Eunsook’s family was making far more money than they ever dreamed of.

And soon, they would be celebrating the wedding of Minjung to Jinki, the second binding of The Tempest to Keshla. The two had run around, chasing each other up and down the coast of Zahr like two dogs in heat for years and were the proud parents of six boys. The decision to settle down came naturally after Malik, their youngest birth.

To celebrate, they’d all gathered around the deck of Keshla. Jinki rose and tapped his sword against the ground.

“Here ye hear ye, all ye courtesans and pirates, ye vile creatures of Malvasi’s night,” he said, gaining him a loud round of hoots and laughter from everyone. He raised his glass. “It’s been years, eight beautiful years that I’ve known the lot of you. Minho and Kibum, you don’t count, of course.”

“As old as you are, I’m surprised you still have the ability to count without using your toes, you old fart!” Kibum called from the end of the table. Kibum was still trying to convince Taeyeon and Junghee of the advantages of a polyamorous relationship, but Junghee was quick to remind him that he fell in love with everyone he met, so it would be best if he were to keep his options open and his pants up. Eternally. When Kibum was forced to agree over Taeyeon’s snort, Jinki fell into a round of laughter.

“Oh, gods be good! I forgot what I was going to say!”

Their family was small, quirky and fiercely loyal to each other. Eunsook looked across the table to her husband, winked and snickered when he rolled his eyes at her. Still, he reached across the table and slid his hand into hers, showing her a smile that he reserved just for her. This was the life she was meant to lead, these were the people she was meant to love, and this was the man she was meant to be with.
And to think, it all started with one lie.

The End.
