Summary: Rei had been in love with Niou since their middle school days, but he was always with someone else. Nine years later, what will happen to the two of them when given a chance?

'Today's the day! I'm going to tell him!' she thought as she ran across the school to find her friend since diapers. She saw his mess of silver hair ahead and was about to yell out his name when a girl attached herself to his arm and he smiled. She stopped running and stared at her retreating friend.

"Aww, Niou-san is currently dating Mitsu-chan." said a girl as she and her friends walked up to her.

"That's right, there's no way that little Rei-chan to do anything about this now." smirked another girl as she hit the bento box out of Rei's hands and stepped on the food that Rei took hours to make that morning.

"Might as well get lost." said the last as she pushed Rei against the wall. "He doesn't need a stupid idiot to be around him anymore. You're not needed."

Rei woke up in the middle of the day by her roommate. She looked up to her and saw that she was worried. "Are you okay?" she said in English.

"I'm fine." she replied back in the same language. Rei got up from her position and stretched.

"You're crying."

"Huh?" She reached up, touched her face and was surprised that her face was wet.

"Are you sad that you're leaving America tomorrow?"

"Not really. I finished college already; it's about time that I went back to Tokyo and live there. Besides, after four years, I miss Japan, Alex." Rei said as she wiped her face.

"Well, you were just in Japan during spring break." Alex said.

"Yeah, but that was only less than a week. I want to live in Japan again."

"Okay, so did you find a place to live yet?"

"Yeah, Masa's apartment is pretty big and he has a spare room for me to stay in."

"You're not staying with your boyfriend, Hiroshi?" she asked, surprised.

"Well, Hiroshi's apartment is small and I don't want to burden him, plus I didn't tell him that I had already graduated and wanted to surprised him in Japan." she giggled.

"How long have you two been dating?"

"Umm... well, since our third year of middle school.... So, about nine years."

"And you guys aren't married?"

"Are you two going to get married soon?"

Rei blushed. "That's none of your business, Masa."

Niou chuckled. "Why not? I want to be the 'Best Man'."

"We're too young to get married, Niou-kun." said Yagyuu as he pushed up his glasses.

"Hiroshi's right. Though we'd been seeing each other for four years now, we're both still too young to be married; our parents really won't allow it."

"Just make sure that you invite me, 'kay?"

"Are you sure that you want me to go?" Rei asked.

"It would be a good experience for you." Yagyuu answered.

"Hiroshi...."

"I believe it would be good for you, Rei."

'I can't believe I'm here to stay.' thought Rei as she got off her plane. It was an tiring long plane ride, but it was worth it to be back in Japan.

"Puri."

Rei smiled and turned around. "I can't believe that you're still saying that, even when you're an adult now!"

Niou smirked. "What do you want me to say instead? 'Piyo'?"

Rei giggled and hugged him. "Thanks for letting me stay."

Niou hestiated, but eventually hugged her back. "It's no problem; not like we haven't lived together before."

"Thanks for letting me stay over until my parents come back, Masa." Rei said as they walked into his house.

"No problem; your parents deserve to have at least one anniversary without their little brat." he smirked.

"Hey!" she picked up a pillow and threw it at him, hitting him square in the face.

"You know what I don't get?" asked Alex as the two entered the mall.

"Why you're buying me a going away present?" replied Rei.

"Of course not! I'm just wondering, it seems like you and your friend, Masa, seems to know everything about each other, plus you two seem to complete one another... why aren't you with him instead of Hiroshi?"

"Well... Masa had had a lot of girlfriends and they are all much more prettier than I am."

"Don't you like him?"

"When will you go see him?" asked Masa as he drove home.

"I think I will this Sunday. You and I know that Hiroshi is always home Sunday evenings." Rei replied with a smile.

"Are you going to call him?"

"Nope, I'm going to surprise him."

"Are you sure about that?"

"Why shouldn't I, Masa?"

"...no reason."

"Are you really going out with Yagyuu?" asked Niou while in class.

"Shh, I'm trying to take these notes, Masa!" Rei whispered and continued writing when the teacher looked at the class.

"Well, just answer the question, Rei." he poked her.

Rei rolled her eyes. "Yes, I'm going out with Yagyuu-kun, Masa. Is there a reason I shouldn't?"

"...no reason."

Rei sat behind the clubhouse, crying. She hadn't attended any classes since lunch and she wasn't planning on returning to class anytime soon. She felt that there was no need for her to ever return, not with any of those four around Niou now.

Suddenly she saw a handkerchief. She looked up and saw it's owner. "Yagyuu-kun...."

He say next to her and gently wiped her tears away. "My mother always told me that a female's tears are something that no man should see. I saw what happen what those girls, Suzuki-chan. You shouldn't worry; they won't bother you anymore."

"Yagyuu-kun... I don't know how to repay you...." she whispered.

"There is no need to; I didn't do it for you to repay me."

"You're apartment seems much cleaner now." commented Rei as she stepped into the apartment.

"Well, my old girlfriend came here when we were dating and cleaned it." replied Niou as he took their coats and hanged it in the closet.

"Oh, you're seeing someone?" she asked as she sat on the couch.

"No, I broke up with her a week ago; not really my type."

"You broke up with Mitsu?" asked Rei, surprised.

"Yeah, I heard of what happened and I don't want to date something only because I'm a good piece of meat."

"'Someone'."

"Eh?"

"You said 'something,' it should be 'someone'."

Niou smirked. "I meant to say 'something'."

"How many girlfriends did you have?" asked Rei as she pulled her English book out of her book bag.

"Huh? I think I had... fifteen so far?" he answered as he scribbled on his paper. "Damn, this math problem is impossible to solve."

Rei looked over at his paper. "Take the limit to zero, you'll be able to solve it then. But still, you only started dating since last year and already fifteen?"

"Well, I'm not like you, I can't find just one person to date. Oh, I see, it was just a limit problem."

"Well, Hiroshi is a very kind person. Plus, I'm not a player like you. Aw, I can't remember a word!"

"What word?"

"Shinjitsu."

"Truth. First name already? Well, just be careful."

"Why do I have to be careful?"

"I'm going to go see Hiroshi! See you when I get back, Masa." she said as she ran out the door before Niou could have stopped her. She thought that it was strange that Niou had been trying to get her to change her mind about going to see Yagyuu on Sunday, but it didn't stop her from going. She was happy to see him again after so long.

She climbed the stairs to go up to his apartment, but she didn't travel far because at the top of the staircase, Yagyuu was going down with another girl.

"H-Hiroshi...."

Yagyuu looked and was as surprised as she was. "Rei... you came back?"

"Oh? This is the Rei you'd been talking about, Hiroshi?" asked the girl.

"Hiroshi, what is this...?"

"Well...."

She ran.

She didn't want to be standing there any longer, not after finding out that the person she had been with for nine years was seeing another girl. She didn't want to believe it. 'So, this is what Masa said about being careful....' She ran into the apartment and slammed the door.

"You're back." he said, concern in his voice.

"I understand why you wanted me not to go." she said, staring at the ground with tears threatening to fall.

Niou walked over to her and hugged her tightly. "Everything will be alright, Rei."

Rei shook her head as the tears finally fell. "No it won't, Masa! Hiroshi... Hiroshi.... You knew and yet you didn't tell me, Masaharu...."

Niou hugged her tighter. "He told me that I shouldn't get stuck in other people's business. He was going to tell you, eventually."

"He should have told me in the beginning." she said as she ran into her room.

"Rei." Niou knocked on the door, waiting for a response. She has been locked in her room for the last couple of days and had yet to come out to do anything. "Rei, open this door before I do it myself." Still nothing.

The doorbell rang and Niou sighed as he went to answer it.

"Yo!" said Marui as he popped his gum.

"What are you doing here?" asked Niou as he let him in.

"Just around the neighborhood."

"Now's not a good time."

"Why's that? You have a lady friend over?"

"Rei's back from the States, but she found out about Yagyuu." Niou sighed. "I don't know what to do about her."

"How about telling her?" asked Marui as he nudged Niou. "This could be your last chance."

"Get out." commanded Niou and he shoved Marui out the door.

"Oi! Fine, I'll leave, but just try it."

Niou sighed and ran his hand threw his hair. He truly did not know what to do at the moment and Marui's idea was actually the best that he had heard all week. But, the truth was that he was scared of what she would say and how she felt about him. He didn't want her to get even more upset, but he knew that he couldn't just stand there and do nothing.

Getting the key to the guest room, he opened the door and found Rei just lying on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. "Rei?"

She turned and he could have seen the lifelessness in her eyes. "Oi! Rei!" he said as he went over and shook her. "Come on, get a hang of yourself! Don't let this get you down!"

Rei looked away. "How would you know, Masa? You never been dumped before."

Niou place her down and climbed on top of her, causing her to slightly blush. "I may have never been dumped, but I know the feeling since the one I love has been with someone else for nine years."

Rei eyes widen when she heard what he said. "Masa... you...."

"Rei, I don't care about any other girl besides you. I never did." he said as he slowly leaned down and kissed her.

Her eyes widen from shocked, but she then closed her eyes and kissed him back. She felt as if every part of her body had exploded with ecstasy. Rei's hands unconsciously went around Niou's neck and her fingers intertwine with his silver hair.

She felt Niou smirked in the kiss and he gently nibbled on her bottom lip, but she wasn't that willing to let him in yet. However, he gained access when he slowly moved his hand up her bare thighs and in her short nightgown causing to gasp.

Her hands left his hair and slowly traveled in his shirt. After some moments he lost it when he parted for the two to breathe. Niou kissed her chin and with a trail of butterfly kisses, kissed up her jaw and down her neck. "I love you, Rei." he whispered into her neck.

Rei smiled when she heard that. "I love you too, Masaharu."

Niou smirked.

I'll let you imagine the rest. ;D
