The surprise could not have been greater if he stood face to face with the devil himself. Hell, this was London! Far worse, this was the mansion of the Royal Navy's Vice-Admiral; only aristocrats, high-ranking officers and other influential people were invited. But despite all security efforts, none other than Captain Jack Sparrow stood here in front of him, and smiled.
Of course he had changed his look, hid his mane under a fashionable wig, shaved his chin clean of those ridiculous braids, and even dispensed with his usual eye kohl. Nevertheless, this was the most wanted pirate of the Caribbean Sea who roamed through the Vice Admiral's place in clothes as elegant as any gentleman's.
"What are YOU doing here?" Norrington asked in a low tone.
"Watching," was the short reply, accompanied by the pirate's typical smirk.
"Watching what? Or should I ask 'whom'?" Norrington inquired further, suppressing the itch to grab his lover, shake some sense into him and find a way to put him immediately out of danger.
The pirate's smirk grew to a grin, when he bent nearer and whispered:
"Ye really think I'd miss yer ennoblement festivities, Sir James? Should've known me better, luv!"
