I wanted to like Glee. And, at first, I did. The first episode was great. It had a message of hope for the underdog. Unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to it. Instead, it got mired down by soap opera plot lines. At first, I was willing to forgive this - a lot of the characters have great chemistry with each other, and the songs are enjoyable. But the hope was starting to fade because of meddlesome people, and the good characters turned stupid. Not in the "I don't like this, therefore it's stupid" sense, but in the "these people are making poor life choices, and they're supposed to be the ones giving us hope?" sense. Despite this, it still had me strung along out of habit until the World Series, after which I just haven't cared enough to come back to it.
Yeah there are a few characters that grate on me for those reasons. But I really am enamored with the musical aspect more than the plot lines, though my liking the plot lines is where a lot of the shame part comes in. I'm waiting and hoping for the show to redeem itself and for some of the characters making terrible choices to have to pay for their mistakes and learn from them. That's my hope anyway.
