It’s unfortunate that sometimes the human beings you allow into your life make you a guest star in their personal dramas. It’s your true nature to display empathy toward those who are important to you, but for the most part you have to realize people make their own choices concerning the actions or path in their lives--for better or for worse. Thankfully your stepfather didn’t inflict any irreparable harm upon anyone around him. I’m glad you understand there isn’t anything further that you can do for the man, the type of help he needs is professional and preferably far away from you and your family
