Ornais and Dooneys Gate were killed in today's 'grand' national in the UK, a supposed nation of animal lovers. A 'harmless flutter?' A national treasure? I fu**ing think not ( Read more... )

My grandfather used to bet on horse-racing, small bets, because he enjoyed watching it. But, he only liked flat racing, he wouldn't bet on, watch or support jumps and the grand national, he hated seeing, or just the idea, of the horses getting hurt.

So while he was in favour of flat racing and enjoyed it, he was against jump racing because of the danger to the horses. I sort of take that view, though I'm not a fan of any horse racing. I could tolerate flat racing continuing, but I'd like to see the end of jump racing.

I'm no fan of horse racing in general, but I truly detest the Grand National.
