The book is light-hearted, comical and touching. At the end of the story the author has to move into the city, and so he relunctantly leaves the owls with a friend in the country, ( Read more... )

sorry my last text was kinda short, I didn't stop and think how it might've sounded to you. I really honestly haven't felt up to talking and still don't, but I want to let you know I was never mad at you.

Aw I'm sorry :\ I think it's only me who annoys you really, which is probably why we're still such good friends.. >>;

I was feeling better, and then I guess I got a little down again. FIGHTING! MUST SUCCEED.

Ok...that was depressing...and I'd never even heard of the book to become emotionally invested in their story.

Damn.

When I looked back on the entry I kind of felt I wouldn't get any empathy across for the owls because I never really went into their story at all. You do though get very attached to them like you do with all much-loved pets, since you grow with them from the time the author rescues them from certain death as chicks and then my favorite of the two rescues the author himself from certain harm on multiple occasions. Very storybook misadventure, but I never doubted it was far from the truth.

I guess it's just a low-point to see how life turns out sometimes; I can see why the author chose the end the book as he did. I was perfectly happy in assuming the owls lived long lives at his friend's estate and that the author went back to visit them often. I'm probably more upset I won't be able to look at the book the same way whenever I reread it.

Not to use the owls as a metaphor for how I've been feeling lately but .. :\ thanks mister.

That is really sad though, and why would anyone shoot at an owl o_O;

:\ yeah. The wiki didn't give specifics, but said the owl was shot by the new owner of the house where the author had lived. The owl was extremely tame, he would often swoop down and land onto shoulders of people. The thing was, he was enormous and very formidable looking with his wingspread and sharp talons. My guess is he was probably trying to land on the owner and he got spooked and shot him.

That's so sad. Someone ought to have warned the new owner. ^^;;;;

And really unless you're a small rodent owls aren't about to treat you as prey. ~.~

I'm so sorry to hear that . . . I know what it's like to get attached to beloved book icons from childhood :/

And I'm sorry that you're having such a rough time of it right now -- I don't know the details, but I'm hoping that life starts looking up again soon.

**hugs**
