Please excuse the bitchiness of this post. I am not referring to anyone in particular, nor do I expect people to have perfect grammar all the time. I just get fed up with people who constantly make the same mistakes about 500 times in one post. So, here you go; please spread the news ( Read more... )

There IS such a word as payed.

Hee hee! Pisses me the fuck off, too. :(

That's not what I learned in school.. but, eh, whatever! :) Funny thing is, it's there, but not in any of the example sentences...

I think "paid" is more preferable, but I'm certainly not perfect when it comes to grammar.. just better than some. ;)

The school I used to go to taught us plenty of blatently wrong things about English, so it's quite possible this one is a teaching mistake too.

When I think about it though, I can't actually remember a time I've seen 'payed' used in a correct context either. =:S

(Apologies for any mistakes in this comment too, but it's the best you can expect from me at 2am. =;))

It's "blatantly."

*grins* I hope you didn't expect to escape the wrath of the Dreaded Nit-picker of LiveJournal there! =;)

YES. THANK YOU. arbutus January 29 2004, 20:23:01 UTC
Half the people on LiveJournal today need a serious grammar smackdown. Thanks for doing your part. =:D

You know what else annoys me, though? When people misuse the words "per se". Half the time, too, people both misuse it AND spell it "persay." I wish people would learn to just stop trying to use words they don't understand!

Yow, that one is pretty bad, too!

What about people who ALWAYS use "I" instead of "me?"

"Hey George, want to come down to the pool with Ben and I?"

Yup, that's bad...

Another one:

He could have wrote one in an hour.

I was feeling pedantic at the time and questioned the guy who said that. He couldn't see anything wrong with it.

Hmm, most of what I write from those points are typos, but some grammar I really do have problems with ( ... )

Learning grammar of a foreign language SUCKS. I wouldn't expect anyone to be particularly good at that. I screw up French grammar all the time. I can't remember what any of the terms mean, either.. though I don't even know what half of them are called in English, I just know how to properly use them.

however, a vegetarian can't say they're vegan

The point of that little bit WAS people claiming that vegetarian = vegan. Just plain stupidity on their part. I just keep hearing people who don't know what vegan means, and apparantly think it's just a "short" way of saying "vegetarian." So basically they sit there scoffing tons of cheese and yogurt and say, "I'm a vegan, meat is bad!"

The "vegetarian" rather than herbivorous pets thing bugs me too, though.

Oh, wierd, I've never heard that "vegan" instead of "vegetarian" thing...
Except if I have come accross it and just assumed they knew what they were talking about :P

I once had an acquaintance ask me if I was a "VEganitarian" (he combined the two words). I'm not sure if he knew he was in error, or if he was attempting to be clever.

I am the same exact way. I completely freak out over that kind of thing.

My friends tease me relentlessly about being such a grammar freak, but grammar actually gives me JOY!!!
