I'd love to see your work! I too loved art in my college and HS years, but never thought anything would come of it. My writing also seemed frivolous.

Today? My sculpture and writing doesn't pay the bills, but it does buy some nice long weekends.

I know the feeling, Jaytee and I were talking about it last night. He's like, it'd be great as a creative outlet, just don't expect to do it for a living. :D

I don't know why we get so creative in our HS years then life sort-of beats us into saying, I have to take a job doing X to pay the bills. If only we could all what do what made us happy. :D

Of course I don't know if I'd enjoy it as much if I had to produce to put food on the table.

I was out of work for a while last year and made enough to keep the lights on, but ended up needing a break.

Life beats it out of you because THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. Curse the real world!

I dunno; admittedly, we haven't really ever met, but I get the impression you're more of a seeker of knowledge than something as mundane as an artist. Your interest in art is likely the same as your interest in everything--voracious and all consuming until you've consumed it, and then you're ready to move on. Just a thought.

So basically he's flighty?

"Let us worship Aphrodite
In her dainty litttle nightie
She's a beauty but she's flighty
And that's good enough for me!
Gimmie that old time religion..."

My dad, with the best of intentions, had a way of completely squashing my creative impulses as well. But if it's something you like to do, you may as well go and do it :-)

BTW, I hope things go well with Jaytee, sounds like a very rough couple of days...

yeah...he's managing. We're going over to a friend's house tonight...so a little alcohol and a bit of fun and his outlook might improve (crosses fingers)
