of all the things i expected when i became a dog owner (and i figured there'd be some pretty "ack" type experiences), wandering around in the backyard with a tiny little flashlight, trying to ward off a hundred bajillion cockroaches while i tried to track down the most recent pile of poop to evaluate the state of my dog's stomach was definitely NOT ( Read more... )

There is no need to apologize to me. I don't hold anyone else to my beliefs, nor will I ever. If you truly desire the destruction of those roaches in your yard, my best wishes go with you.

find someone whos got a spreader (its like a wheel barrel with a hole in the bottom and a thing that spins around to fling out whatevers inside) and get some fire ant/ bug killing pellets (comes in a bag that looks like a dog food bag) and just spread it through the yard.

or if you wanna be really cool, get some gasoline and a book of matches.

Maybe something like Adams yard spray? I'm not sure, though. Ask at your local feed store, and they should be able to steer you in the right direction.

I also wanted to add a Happy Birthday to your unhappy story (cockroaches scare the bejeebus out of me), and I see that I was beaten to it. That could have something to do with the fact that I'm like a day late or something, according to Outlook, which is my brain for such things. I hope you're doing well. You need to drop me an email (anything at schmads.com) and let me know!

As much as gasoline and matches seems like a good idea, maybe a lot of Amdro or something similar would be safer. Of course, I have no idea if that stuff is hazardous to animals. It looks like Raid, among others, sell outdoor yard foggers that kill various bugs, but I don't see one for roaches. I see indoor foggers for roaches, and I'm not sure what the difference is. There is an outdoor roach spray, though I'm not sure how economical it would be for an entire yard. http://www.killsbugsdead.com/fop_o_ar_k.asp has the entire list along the side.
