A "mea culpa" from LJ. No, a *real* one!

This was posted by theljstaff in lj_2008 this evening. I recommend reading it, because we've all bitched about being jerked around and never getting a sincere apology. IMO, that is what this is.

Yeah, I was very impressed by this, too. This was an amazingly mature response to what probably looked to them to be a wild overreaction, given the general lack of understanding of their user base. That they elected to put aside their pride and extend this respect and courtesy in spite of all the anger and venom and threats of boycotting is seriously impressive.

I'm ... fairly satisfied with that, actually. My inner cynic knows that it's a marketing decision like everything else, but you know what? They're a business! And from the look of things, they *are* paying attention to their customers and they *are* trying to meet their customers' needs. That's all I want from the business that I deal with. I'll be interested to see what develops.

Yeah, exactly. This is the first response from either LJ owner that seemed mature and willing to rise above the mutual recriminations and misunderstandings to extend both a sincere apology and an invitation (complete with a process) to offer meaningful feedback to policy decisions before they are actually implemented. I am far more inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt now.
