I just...I think...hm.

So watched the new episode of Supernatural tonight and...hm.

SPOILERS AHEAD! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Well, I had a multitude of thoughts after the episode so let's take it one at a time.

First (and obviously I guess), Bobby.

I am...not certain how I feel about Bobby's death. The ambiguous ending of the previous episode and then the month break between meant I agonized over it for about 2 days and then let it go, deciding to just wait until the next one to put my feelings to rest, so to speak.

Then of course they hedged the issue for a portion of the episode until Sam mentions that he passed on, which seemed like such a...I don't know, an odd way to put it, coupled with his behavior. So now I don't know what to think, even after Dean got pissed and mentioned his death. It just doesn't really feel final enough, the way they drew it out. I guess I'll let the next few episodes give me a better feel.

On the matter of Dean's 'disappearing beer', I wasn't paying that close of attention to it, so I simply thought he downed it without noticing. Until people started freaking out about it and I went back to see. Now there are a bunch of theories about what happened, and a lot of people believe Bobby's ghost or something was responsible, but that to me seems odd. The only one I saw that made sense was someone who thought it had to do with God of Time, who will be in the next episode, as sort of a preliminary introduction of sorts fucking with Dean, and that I can see.

As for the girl? Didn't mind her at first. Pulling the classic 'I destroyed the info now you have to take me along' didn't score her any points with me, and even less so when she sat in the front seat criticizing Dean about how to do his job. "Don't treat me like a girl?" Uh, maybe you didn't notice, but YOU ARE A GIRL. And what exactly does that have to do with anything? The correct thing to say would be "Stop treating me like a pushy kid who's never been on a hunt in my life." Oh, wait, you are. Knowing and doing, like Dean said, are two different things. Dean has you beat in every way, kid. He's been hunting longer, he's killed more things than probably any other hunter alive, and he himself has been dead. He covers all bases.

What really pissed me off with her though was her just fucking walking in there. No stealth, no sneaking, just straight walked right past Dean who'd been about to stab the bitch into her sister like she was asking to be taken hostage. Yes. That's helping. That's how to do it. Her dad was one feeding away from dying, and her dumb stunt could have killed him.

Dumbass.

Then we have Dean. Ah Dean. See, his problem is that he has one setting: hunt, and one speed: go. He's a little like perpetual motion. It just keeps moving. Even if he wants to stop, even if he can't take anymore, he literally doesn't know how to stop. He has to be forced to, and when he is he just sits there and broods and tries to remember how it worked before, but it's one of those things you can't really explain or even understand, even when you know it, so you just get more and more anxious about it until finally you do it and it clicks, effortlessly, and you suddenly remember, 'oh yeah, I got this, of course, how did I ever forget?'. That would be Dean.

The other problem of course is all the advice people keep trying to give him about how to move on or keep going or how to stay in the game. It's all perfectly good, reasonable advice, with one major flaw: they don't know Dean. Many of the people who say 'boo hoo, cry me a river, get over yourself!' have no idea the actual depth of everything Dean's gone through, so to tell him to just brush it off is, honestly, pretty ridiculous. It's not their fault of course, but it makes it seem cheap, because they unintentionally make it sound like Dean's getting worked up over nothing, and he's not. The guy's on his last wobbly leg of whatever sanity he has left, so he's gonna need some serious support to stay that way.

I think personally what Dean needs is someone who DOES know what he's been through and does understand to sit down and talk to him about it. Unfortunately the only person who fits that bill is Sam, and as we've seen many times before, he kind of sucks at giving Dean pep talks, largely because he's the one who's usually screwing up and needing one from Dean, and also because as much as he tries, he's been more or less conditioned to be led, rather than lead where Dean's concerned, so he leaves the hard things up to Dean even when he doesn't mean to.

In which case he should just give him a hug and tell him he loves him. Not promise to always be with him (even if he will) or tell him everything will be okay, but just let Dean know, really know, that he cares about him. I think that alone would make things a lot better for both of them. As much hurt as they've been through, a reminder of the basics wouldn't be a bad start.

Overall, I loved the episode. I liked seeing the return of humor and silly things (like the cherry picker), and I liked how things, while not leaping forward in the overall plot, shed a little light for both us and the characters.

Of course, what I'm really looking forward to is next week. Dean as an old school gangster? Hell yeah!

reviews, blah
