Character Series: Fate/Stay Night
Character Age: 17
Background: Unlimited Blade Works and Shinji Matou - After the war, it is reported that Shinji has started to become the person he was more than three years prior to the game; which I'd have to believe is done through psychology and at least some behaviour modification training.

Personality: During the events of Fate/Stay Night; Shinji Matou is a narcissistic person. He loves himself and he is the most important person in his life, no matter what. He is prideful, and will hold a grudge for long periods of time, no matter what; such as holding a grudge against Shirou Emiya for punching him (for abusing his sister, Sakura), or such as holding a grudge against Rin Tohsaka for refusing him (more on that later). Shinji Matou is also chauvinistic, and he displays this in the way he holds himself above all others, using a ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude to everyone (Sakura Matou being a prime example), and acts like all he wants belongs to him and should treat him as their owner.

On the flip side of all this, Shinji is also a dirty coward.. As shown multiple times during the Unlimited Blade Works route, he is willing to do anything to get an advantage (such as forcing Rider to use Blood Fort: Andromeda on his school, willing to sacrifice everyone else), because he has no magical talent whatsoever. In fact, it is revealed in another route that the only reason Shinji was Rider's master was because Sakura was forced to use her command seals to create the Book of False Attendent. When Rider was defeated by Caster and Shinji was left helpless, he immediately revealed his cowardice and ran away to safety(only to try again not long later with Gilgamesh as his 'servant'). Also, more on the dirty coward front, he also blames everyone and everything else for his failures and is not one to take responsibility.

In spite of all this, Shinji is a very popular student and is shown at least once with multiple girls fawning over him at the beginning of Fate/Stay Night. However, Shinji's important relationships remain less than stellar. He has actively abused his sister in each of the general three categories (emotional, physical, sexual), and has left Sakura generally listening to things he says, only because she is afraid of him; she even denies when he abuses her. This is because Shinji holds a grudge against Sakura for being the designated head of the Matou family, even though she's younger than he is, and she is adopted. In the case of Shirou Emiya, the pair were friends in youth, but said friendship has become far more strained since three years prior to the events of the game, and of course during the game as he holds a grudge against Shirou for punching him(even if the reason was just). In the case of Rin Tohsaka; it is known that he harbors feelings for Rin, but she does not return them, and quite possibly hates him(even if she did save him from becoming a false Holy Grail). For the course of the game, he held a grudge against her for denying his feelings, which led to extreme actions (which were prevented).

It has been reported in the game that all of these bad sides to Shinji have only been there for three years or so, up until the end of the Unlimited Blade Works route. It is also shown that at the end of the story, Shinji was hospitalized after being the core of the fake Holy Grail and has started to become a kinder, more considerate and caring person, like he was prior to three years ago. However, because he is recovering and only starting to become kinder, it is possible for Shinji to have a relapse back into the state of mind he was in during the war if he is triggered by traumatizing or stressing events in his life.

Abilities: Not Applicable
Sample Entry:

[Stressful situations were not something a recovering Shinji Matou could handle, so he ditched school today. He'd heard the warnings, but that didn't matter to him as went in the direction of the Neutron Diner.]

Tch... telling me that there are dire consequences for skipping, please. No stranger tells Shinji Matou what to do. Stupid teachers, it's all their fault; if they wouldn't piss me off so much, I wouldn't be skipping.

[He rubbed his temple and tried to calm himself down as he leaned against a telephone pole and spat at the ground.]

Calm down Shinji, just calm down, those people aren't worth getting pissed off over.

[He took a deep breath and went into the diner. Maybe there would be someone he could just chew the fat with.]
