[His Roselia seems to be telling some great story to the Voltorb, Dragonair, and Noctowl nearby, or at least that's what it looks like from her excited noises and pantomiming. It's a story of her last fight, which seems clearer when she dramatically falls down at one point only to pick herself up after and strike a victory pose.]She's proud of ( Read more... )

It's hard to figure out how to handle it when they want to fight.

She and Sir Richard enjoy it the most.

Sometimes I think it's just in their natures and unavoidable.

Perhaps. But it doesn't mean I have to enjoy watching it happen.

[There's more to it than not wanting to see them fight, but he's not saying that.]

Fighting can be crass but some do enjoy it more than others.

I already said that. But I was asking a question.

There are wild Pokemon. Why not allow them to explore their natures with them?

Because there's nothing beautiful in watching them fight until one passes out from exhaustion.

[A pause after Iori watches this, then he replies.]

If it's their nature to fight... then it's important to look after them and the other pokémon afterwards.

If you can excuse my bluntness, I don't know what more there is to consider. At the heart of the matter is a conflict between those two desires. Is it cruel to allow a creature to fight and bring harm to itself, or is it cruel to keep them caged, denying them the chance to act out their instincts.

She's already made her choice. You owe her yours.

Aya has offered to let mine train against his, which has less risk, but it doesn't let them protect me as they want to. Cruelty is only part of what I'm concerned about.

Give them things.

[The rustling sound of a cigarette leaving the pack? Possibly!]

So far, I've been successful in deferring her. Lemonade, soda pop, sweet things.

I'll try that. She might not be interested though.

[This is Chloe attempting to be civil since they'll be living in the same house soon.]

[Oh, likewise. Wonder how long that'll last?]

After that comes begging, I do believe.

I'd rather not resort to that.
