Game About Ass-Kicking Wants You Feeling Inadequate

Tina and I went to Half Price Books on a date earlier this week. I saw "Painkiller" and its first expansion bundled on sale for $10, so naturally I gobbled it right up.

If you want a good shooter with more effective weaponry but still various kinds of craziness, try the Serious Sam games. Those are a good time.

Reminds me of trying to play the Wheel of Time game, which was based on the original Unreal engine (circa 1997 or so). It ran too fast most of the time to play at all; the fix was a console command that limited the frame rate. It was still a bit uneven, but as playable as it ever was.

As for the shoddy physics stuff and bad level design, yeah can't help you there.

I had similar issues with Painkiller. I got onto about level 7 or 8 (yeah, I'm a masochist) and then the entire floor disappeared! Now that's what you call a bug. I actually think Painkiller could have been very good, although the narrative design left a lot to be desired. One minute you're fighting on a suspension bridge, then you're in a medieval dungeon, then a railway station... You can't beat Half-Life 2 and the numerous maps and mods made by the community. And Portal rocks too.
