Christians drive me crazy

I am working hard to accept people of all persuasions, but I have the most trouble with christians, especially middle and upper income white christians, and especially if they're republicans or baptists, or capitalists

Yeah, Blair, I totally feel you on this one. I think religion, especially in the South, is just a way for people to justify themselves. You know, I'm really pissed off about the bible. It seems it can be used by any xenophobic group to justify their crazy prejudices. And then there's all this stuff in the Old Testament laws; the condoning of murder of people of other races, religions, sexualities; epistles that openly support slavery; patriarchal bullshit. Strangely though, no Christian seems to think that any of that stuff is serious enough to convince them of the fuckedupedness of Christianity

and just from another view point: I'm a Christian. and Christians drive me crazy too. Just like you said. it is just as bad from the inside.

and I am an insider too, I was a younglife(wyldlife) leader, an Impact leader, a vbs teacher, I was a member of the christian student group in college, I even went to church in college. But I was always confronted with the same conflicts...primarily that based solely on my gender I was to be treated differently before god and before man. That is always reinforced by the emphasis on god's maleness, and the holiness of the male leaders in church. that is the primary reason I have left the church. It took many years, and many different trusted mentors looking me in the eye and saying, "well, that's just what the bible says" when I asked them about women in ministry. These were my teachers, people I was vulnerable with, people I prayed with and experienced the holy spirit with

have you read the Davinci code?
interesting book, if you havent read it, i would look into it.
raises some questions.
i did not want to read it bc of all the hype surrounding it. i just read it about 2 weeeks ago.
