Hooray, camping again at Lake Pueblo!  I've been down here four times now--twice camping, twice hiking--and absolutely love the openness, the dryness, and the off-season quiet ( Read more... )

If I ever go camping, I shall fill the tent full of rocks.

Hee! I did that once--lining the wind-facing side of the tent with the biggest rocks I could find. :) This wind came up so quickly, and hit the side of the tent I couldn't well vent, the only thing I could use was my own body... which wasn't enough, alas.

Fond memories of the day I put up my tent, a gust of wind came and the whole thing lay flat on the ground. I did find a more sheltered spot that night.

(My greatest camping disaster: the bag with pegs-and-poles contained only the tent pegs. I managed to rig something to sort-of create a bivouac that night - I noticed at 10pm in the rain with no chance of alternate accommodation - but it was uncomfortable and I had to restock several times during the night.)

I can imagine!

Gotta admit, I've grown accustomed to the mostly sheltered-by-default campgrounds of the Midwest. I saw in my Pueblo campground a fantastic view... and forgot to consider *possible* wind and weather patterns of lake and desert.

(My second-worst camping disaster was the time I forgot almost all my food--though I remembered the dog's food! The name of the campground I stayed at was, no joke, Starve Hollow. :) )
