So I am now an adult with lots of bills to pay and a real credit card and responsibilities, but I'm also the lucky rommate of Julia Amrock and live about 10 minutes on foot from my building on campus and live above an international market and have friends that are really positive and laid back and excited about teaching and research ( Read more... )

I'm planning fairly soon to make a trip up to chicago(i.e. some time in September. We'll definitely get together then. Or if you want we're always here, and i think you would LOVE bloomington. You're probably alot like me at the moment(trying to get settled and get the hang of things,etc.). When things settle down a bit, we should definitely hang out.

Blair, did you get my email a while ago? I've been mentally recording nearly every moment of my life here (about two seconds after I've lived it) as would be appropriate dictation for a Mr. Darcy letter to you. I'm working about 14 hours a day, but once I get the hang of it, I will write that letter, which will also include a book that will make you laugh out loud (as you will be reading it aloud with Julia). So, could you give me y'all's address (2 apostrophes!!)? I love you. I miss you.

yes, i did, and I'm a jerk for not responding. Here's the way it happened, does this happen to you? I mentally replied. I composed an email and everything, and then of course checked it off the mental list, when in fact I have sent you physically nothing. In fact, I looked just now and was suprised to see that I had not responded, it seemed so clear.

anyway, as you saw above, things are in full swing here. How about you? What the heck are you doing for 14 hours a day?

I love you so much and am looking forward to my floating head letter.

This is Tom Z. back in Tuscaloosa. Now that you're in Bloomingfool, I'm sure you'll have the opportunity to encounter a singer-songwriter named Carrie Newcomer. She is an OLD friend of mine from my Purdue/Lafayette (Layflat or Lafalott) days ... even sang at my wedding. If/when you see her, ever, tell her hello for me.

BTW, she LOVES Joni Mitchell.
