Another holiday, another reminder of how thankful I am that only one term of my education at Hogwarts remains. There is nothing quite like the freedom to travel and do as one pleases, visiting famiglia in Siracusa, and Millicent in Salisbury, followed by an enjoyable evening in the company of many friends, old and new, at Signora Malfoy's ( Read more... )

That is a common phrase, is it not? Whenever a tragedy occurs The Daily Prophet is plastered with solemn phrases such as "Never Forget". The mere fact that we need reminding almost makes forgetting sound inevitable.

I don't know that one ever forgets the first dead body you see. Moving away a bit of rock and seeing a hand sticking out under it, and that moment when your stomach feels like it's dropping right out because you don't know who it's going to be when you move a bit more, and you don't want to touch it, and then you realise, really and truly, that it's not going away just because you don't want to look at it.

I can't imagine ever forgetting that.

But what to do with it, after? That's a different question.
