Normally, at year's end, I have a lot to say on politics. This year, there is absolutely nothing I can say aside from HOW HAVE WE ALL FOUND OURSELVES SURROUNDED BY SUCH AN ENORMOUS PACK OF TITS?? Honourable exemption for Canada who cleverly voted for someone who is not only a major hottie, but who explained the dominance of women in the cabinet ( Read more... )

I wish you a wonderful 2016! I always love reading your posts even if I don't get a chance to comment as often as I'd like. And gosh, mulberries are incredible - both the taste, and the amount of mess :D

Happy New Year, Birds! So far 2016 is mild, smells slightly of fireworks, and the humans in this house have tonsilitis, which is particularly cruel for me as I had mine out when I was four. But the odds are very strongly in its favour to be better than 2015! *MWAH!*

(I also accidentally left the champagne in the freezer when we forgot to chill it and then to take it out and drink it for Christmas, so we will be making champagne sorbet tomorrow once the majority that did not become a sweet mess in the freezer as the laws of physics forced out the cork and the slowest freezing liquid thaws, only to then be frozen again, slightly sweeter. Oops. As it was, we've been on iced water for a few days, so no bad.)

Not to forget Leonard Nimoy. He will be sorely missed. For way more than just one reason.

Not sure Europe is such a stellar example when it comes to the treatment of refugees. Some countries have done their best, others (yes, I am looking at you, Poland), not so much.

Wishing you a great 2016! Wish I could grow pomegranates - but with the cold winters here it's a no go!

YES! He was splendid. Worth at least 1000 Cheneys!

Eh, most of Europe has done a lot better than Australia. Mr B and I were saying the other day that the most common emotion around our governments of late has been shame. Which is ironic, because clearly the people in them have none.

And a VERY fine New Year to you, too! Yes, no pomegranates for you, but then, no cherries for me. And I'm yet to succeed with raspberries here, though perhaps if I move to a cooler part of the city next time. They're marginal, but I am told it can be done!

I think that shame things goes for a lot of us here in the United States, as well. The morons have taken over, and one of the few sane voices in office will soon be gone, when Obama's term runs out. Kind of scary, truthfully.

This:

"...thoroughly decent famous people like Sir Terry Pratchett and Malcolm Fraser, and yet Dick Cheney is fine. If you needed any reason to see why people are atheists, you need look no further."

Speaking as an atheist, I couldn't agree more. Happy New Year.

And a very Happy New Year to you, too.

Ironically, I have a friend who makes an excellent theological case that Cheney is proof of,if not God, then at least Satan ;-)

Oh, interesting. Something I read awhile back, and I've forgotten where, got me thinking that maybe Satan is actually the good guy, and we've gotten it wrong all this time. Since I am atheist, though, it really doesn't matter to me. :)
