I'm so scared right now Brammers. I know some of it may be just me being pessimistic, but people that elected him don't need help hating my country already without him at the helm.

You'll get through this. We'll all get through this. If nothing else, Trump is so useless and his coterie so horrible that we only have to survive four years of awful. We've all done that before. On the upside, he and Putin are very unlikely to nuke each other!

It's jsut that, I dunno of this made international news, but there was a huge, politically-backed demonstration last week in Jakarta. Thousands upon thousands of right wing hardliners wanting the governor to be locked up cause he supposedly defame the Quran. It was a big conspiracy, it's so obvious because the last president's son is running for governor and suddenly they're lining up and riling up the right wing conservatives who hated the fact that the governor is of Chinese descent (the first one ever elected into prominent government office) and a christian ( ... )

I AM GIVING YOU ALL THE HUGS!

I did know about that, it was leading news here, but it could have done with more context, because we just see a protest, not all the people who are horrified by it and who have spent years hoping that this sort of thing can't happen again.

The world is very screwed up right now. I think the only thing we can do is to be kind, and welcoming and hope and hug. I have so much hope for you, for your country, both of mine, and for the Americans. And I'm trying to finish books to make lots of money to move us all to Iceland or New Zealand if it all goes horribly wrong.

MORE HUGS!

I have a side order of fucking outraged that America is THAT sexist. Though how it could come as a surprise is a mystery to me

Our political enemies are ruthless and they will stop at nothing. Everything is justified by their oh-so-glorious ends. I an so discouraged - by both the racism and the sexism. I would support west coast secession.

Just when I think I have a handle on how much sexism outweighs every other rational consideration in some parts, I am shown to have underestimated the situation yet again. Yes. I think this is a big part of what just happened - both the apologies made for Trump, and the attacks on Clinton. But I also think Americans are fools to be surprised by the sexism. With no statutory maternity leave, no ERA, huge earning discrepancies, and rampant rape and victim-blaming on college campuses then where was there reason to believe sexism wasn't a problem? People (including my former students) need to stop equating discrimination should not happen with discrimination does not happen now.

I already have set in motion to move to Tassie. Mid-year. It is a long process when animals and real estate are involved. I am just floored and all my friends are still in the world of "how did this happen?" - I think we know. It is sad evaluation of the average American.
