It turns out that C. (house mate & D's partner) actually kinda knows the Swedish entrant. He is from a small town near the one she grew up in, so they attended the same school (one or two years apart) and played in the same orchestra. She reports that he is a nice guy.

Excellent! It's not his fault his song was silly, and he looked magnificent the whole way through. If he's single, he will have been making out like a bandit!

My theory is that many people voted for Sweden because they want Måns and Petra to be hosts again. ;) Seriously, I don't mind Robin Bengtsson, but his song was not my favorite in the swedish competition. On the other hand, I didn't get the winning song at all, so what do I know? ;)

I would vote for Sweden for that.

I would learn Swedish and MOVE to Sweden for that (I understand Måns was providing their commentary this year).

I must say, I'm reading all your reviews and it's uncannily as though you were sitting in our living room all weekend watching with us, because it sounds like we were thinking the same things and concocting the same theories...

I agree on all your favourites (though I do rather like The Netherlands), and yes, why on earth didn't Portugal make it a duet all along? Not only does his sister have a lovely voice, the song is significantly more romantic when it is being sung by two (clearly separated) lovers than by one (clearly creepy) stalker. I'm pretty sure it's actually in a Gene Kelly musical, and there is dancing in it.

I can't believe Belarus and Romania and Armenia didn't do better. Very sad. I do think the songs this year were better than usual - quite a few I'd listen to even without the show to entertain me.

Did you get up to watch and vote in the early hours? We did, but the result is that I can't remember most of what happened towards the end of the show (interval acts etc) because I was so sleepy...

I was mostly puzzled by the semi-finals result (I really can't understand how Croatia got through), but the top 2 in the final was spot-on as far as I am concerned.

As always, your commentary was very entertaining. :)
