[ History ] : The first child in the family, and immediately a hellraiser from the moment he was born, Francis Wilkerson is quite the troublemaker. He personally drove his once-successful parents to a sad life in the suburbs, and was allowed to do whatever he pleased until his mother finally learned to be strict with him. As more of his brothers were brought into the family, his parents' frustration grew. He crossed the line after being caught having sex with his girlfriend, crashing the neighbors' car and getting four nosepiercings. Therefore, Francis' story (and the series itself) doesn't truly start until his mother sends him to Marlin Academy, a military school, at the age of 16. Here, he spent almost two years trying to stand up to Commandant Spangler, whom he considered somewhat of an arch-nemesis. Francis would constantly break the rules in the most ridiculous ways, just to make a point and 'stand his ground'. Every so often, he would get a few days off and return to his family and hang out with his brothers. During all the other episodes, Francis would have his own brief story arcs at Marlin Academy.
By the time he's 17, he enlists the help of a shady lawyer to get himself legally emancipated, much to his parents' dismay (putting it lightly). He moves to Alaska, the supposed 'promised land', only to have his hopes and dreams crushed. Instead of his desired job as lumberjack at an Alaskan lodge, he becomes somewhat of a kitchen maid under the watchful eye of his cruel boss Lavernia. His friend Eric Hanson, who was a fellow cadet at Marlin Academy and suggested that they go to Alaska in the first place, shares the same fate. The bright side is that he meets a girl named Piama (Tananahaakna), whom he marries after only a month of dating. His mother is strongly against this, of course, but she cools down eventually. Later, the Alaskan lodge is forced to close and Francis gets another job as a farmhand at a New Mexico ranch. What happened to Eric is unknown.
His new employer, Otto, is a very nice (though somewhat dimwitted) man who's more than willing to put up with Francis' shenanigans so long as the work gets done. During his time at the ranch, Francis finally grows into a responsible adult, though he still has his quirks. After two years of backbreaking and character-shaping work, he unfortunately gets fired because 'the ATM machine he'd been using to deposit the ranch's funds was, in fact, not an ATM at all'. He lives in a dinghy apartment as an unemployed bum for a short period of time and briefly manages his friend's band.
In the end, he's gotten a job at a company called Amerisys Industries. There, he has his own tiny cubicle and spends his day mindlessly entering data into the computer. Surprisingly, he enjoys his job immensely and has become quite the accomplished 'drone'. Of course, he can't stand the thought of his mother knowing about this, thus he claims to be unemployed and makes sure to rub this in her face in the very last episode, before kissing his wife and merrily heading off to work with his briefcase and necktie.
Wiki link just in case [ Personality ] : Francis is, in one word, a rebel. His life basically revolves around standing up to authoritive figures. In fact, he does so in the most peculiar ways, such as the time he tried to care for a single, cheerful flower in his academy room. When his fellow cadets pleaded for him to get rid of it, he refused, as the flower was a symbol for the fact that Spangler couldn't crush their spirits. He absolutely cannot stand oppression and unfairness of any form, up to the point where he yells at his own grandmother for having withheld Christmas presents for years. She'd bought them, yes, but never gave them to anyone, instead keeping them locked away in her closet. The roots for this attitude lead back to his mother. Or so he claims, anyway. Even when she was still lenient with him, Francis was already a horrible toddler who'd draw on walls with crayons and tried to burn his own teddybear. Still, in Francis' opinion, his mother is an evil tyrant who is to blame for every bad thing that's ever happened to him. It's partly true, as Lois has a horrible temper and unashamed when it comes down to 'discipline', but if Francis weren't so stubborn, he wouldn't have been subjected to all that terror.
Francis likes to refer to himself as a "free spirit", who ignores the rules and lives for fun. His amusement is a top priority and he doesn't seem to care who suffers from his antics. A nice example of this trait can be found in the episode "Malcolm Vs. Reese", where Francis returns to the house for a few days. After getting incredibly bored, he buys two tickets to a wrestling match and has his brothers compete for the position of 'favourite'. The one who loves him most gets to go to the match with him. He blackmails them into doing all his chores, but in the end he gives the extra ticket to a girl he'd just met. It isn't until season 4, when he gets his job at the ranch, that Francis starts to grow up and realizes life isn't all about fun.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] : Strengths: Determination. Once Francis decides to prove a point, he'll stick with it until the very end. A prime example is the time he bets his friends the human body could handle a hundred candy Quacks, by eating them himself. The Quacks left him nauseous and immobilized, but he'd succeeded. He will crack under pressure eventually, but it takes a whole lot of torture to get him to that point, as seen in the episode "Tutoring Reese". There, he tries to move into his friend's basement, but the circumstances there are so inhuman that he ends up begging his mother to let him back in the house. It's noteworthy, though, that Francis is immune to most minor forms of torture. As he claims, it's nothing compared to the horrors his mother put him through when he was young.
Francis can be pretty ingenious and devious if he wants to be. His troublemaker brothers consider him somewhat of an idol, for good reason. Whenever there's a ploy they need help with, they'll contact him and ask for advice. As he once states: "Okay, I'm going to show you guys the coolest thing you have even seen. Get me some lighter fluid, a waffle iron, and one of Dewey's stuffed animals. The furrier the better."
Despite his troublemaker nature, it seems Francis does have a good set of morals. So long as nobody tries to force his hand, he'll make a decent attempt to walk the right path himself. Upon discovering the corpse of a forgotten janitor in the academy's basement, Francis tries to ensure the man gets a proper burial. He also gets beaten up by Lavernia because he refuses to fight a woman. Mind you, he punches one of her teeth out once she starts mocking his mother.
Weaknesses: For one, Francis has horribly bad luck. Most of the time, his antics blow up in his face. There's the time he sneaks a snake into his room, but it escapes and eats Commandant Spangler's dog. And how about the time he invites a group of local girls into the academy for a party, who promptly turn the place upside-down? One might say his rebel attitude is to blame, but once he gets his job at the ranch and starts taking work seriously, all of his problems come from unfortunate accidents. He blows up a cow, gets stuck in an old well with Otto... The list goes on.
As explained in the episode "Cheerleader", the boys in the family suffer from some sort of 'genetic defect' that ensures they act like idiots in front of girls they like, which inevitable chases them off. Hal, Francis' father, claims that he was lucky to land their mother and the same likely counts for Piama. After all, while Francis has had a couple of flings, Piama is the only girl who ever stuck with him.
It's been proven that, when given the opportunity, Francis can get horribly lazy. At one point, he gets a personal secretary who gladly does all the work for him. In the end, he literally forgets how to butter his toast and Piama forces him to fire the assistant again.
[ Other Important Facts ] : A running gag in the series is that the family's last name is never actually said. Often, fake names are used or sly easter eggs are incluced to enforce this joke. A notable example is in the series finale, when Francis' employee ID reads "Francis Nolastname". Still, the last name's been confirmed as Wilkerson, as it's clearly visible in the pilot episode and elaborated on in other canon material, such as the season 1 DVD's Special Features.

[For some unknown reason (perhaps the locals did it?), the SFC starts recording in video + audio function to show a teenaged boy lying on the ground. He stirs, before sitting up and looking down at his clothes with a disgusted expression.]
What the- Oh man, I'm soaked! Very funny, guys. ... Guys?
[He looks up, for the first time noticing his surroundings. He's stumped, to say the least.]
Whoah... Atlantis. ... Okay, now I have seen everything. [He starts wringing out his shirt, then slowly turns his head to glance at the fairy.] Jeesh, it's like some freaky sci-fi movie. Eric was right, I shouldn't have eaten that bag of twinkies before going to bed. ... I wish Malcolm was here. He'd be able to explain why this is scientifically impossible, so this whole universe will collapse in on itself and I'll wake up.
[He gets to his feet, moving out of the camera's range. Only his feet and part of his lower legs are visible now.]
Wait, if this is my dream, I can just wish Malcolm into existence. [A considerable pause.] ... Figures my subconsciousness won't do me any favors.
[Another pause, as the feet turn to face the SFC.]
Whohoah, alright! A free Gameboy! Score!
[There's a moment of hesitation, before the feet dash towards the SFC and it gets snatched up from the ground.] Yoink.
