Why do you rationalize emotions which by their nature are irrational? You are setting yourself up for long-term introspective problems for the temporary haven of the ego boost.
I've always found introspection to be about the ability to remove pride and thereby see our actions clearly.
I contest that emotions are irrational. Ficke, maybe. But irrational? And I think pointing out my arrogance and laziness (which merits more disdain since it affects another directly) was evidence of removal of pride...
Emotions are a response to values we place on objects/living things in our surroundings. Not all values are placed consciously (e.g. subconscious). If emotions are then, not a choice. Would they not be irrational at times?
You said your arrogance and laziness lies in your inability to break up with someone. I disagree. I think your pride mainly lies in the desire to find rational causes for every emotion you feel. Example: I didn't use to think I was wrong, I was just different.
