Wait for a heart that never lies,
But not this time.
Watch those explosions in the sky and you'll go blind,
But not this time.
She was lying in the grass. It was a park - what park, where, she didn't care. It didn't matter. She was alone, and there were stars in the sky, and God, it was beautiful.
She bit one lip, slowly, letting the flesh escape piece by piece and feeling the ache. Her eyes were wide and picking out the constellations one by one.
The grass was wet, soaking through the thin shirt, the jeans, the sneakers. Again, she didn't care. The cold didn't bother her - the night was still, the city around her buzzing with life. But she felt encapsulated in this one spot, just laying there and looking at the sky. For some reason, this part of the park was dark enough to make out more than the usual amount of stars.
She was alone - but wasn't that how she wanted it to be? She had never been one to stay with anyone for a long time. Even in life, she had imposed solitude upon herself. It wasn't that she didn't like people - she just needed to be alone. Needed to feel the prick of the needle of life in her own sense, needed self-verification to where she, alone, knew who she was and where and, most importantly, why.
So she lay in the grass, dressed like it was summer. The grass was wet, soaking in through her shirt and jeans and sneaks, making her black hair lustrous in the darkness. Her eyes glittered back at the stars, and briefly she wondered if they were looking back at her.
