LED TV

I wonder when someone will realize that these "LED TV" sets that LG, Samsung and others are advertising are really just LED Backlit LCD TVs...And will proceed to sue the pants off these companies for false advertising.  I wonder....  I think I'll go out and get a CCFL TV!!

Hmmm.....

I bought one of the last CCFL ones as most are going to LED back lighting. They the LEDs are suppose to control the lighting better. Better picture. In time they will with more leds. Yes they are misleading. They will be replace by the AMOLEDs as soon as they work out the bugs and make them last.
If you do buy one like I did. I suggest you use your charge card if it adds another year to your warranty. My Samsung is in the shop getting fixed, power supply. Past the year warranty, but the Credit Card gives you another year. All the paper work is in and I shall see how this plays out. That is will they pay or ??

I hope your repair went smoothly! It's not universally known that credit cards offer extra protection. Even the occasional car rental can be made cheaper if a credit card pays for the insurance. We've saved a lot that way. :)

Well they have paid for the repairs each time it went in. It is in their for the same symptoms. Pictures flicker than goes out. It has almost been in the shop all most half as long as I had it.

Believe it or not everything has been replaced. Yet for the first 3 minutes the pictures flickers and sometimes goes out. Samsung could care less. Still waiting for the shop to call. Since everything was replaced, what ever they replaced was defective.

I believe that the LED ones should have less of a problem. They do not need as high as voltage to start and maintain the fluorescent light.

It seems they have lengthened the warranty to 2 years on all the LCDs now on sale in the stores. I think it should be at least 2.5 years. Mine at the time was one year when I bought it.

Take Care

We have a (still fairly new: 2007??) rear projection TV. I've replaced the lamp twice, but the thing has had connectoritis. Audio goes away slowly, usually on one channel. The remedy is to open it up and replug all the cables on the main propcessor board. Lately I've been resorting to "percussive maintenance" - hitting the rear of the TV with the side of my hand. That does it good for a while.

LCDs are getting so 'cheap' lately. But my old bedroom TV (27" Sony 4x3 from '99) is still working fine, so I can't justify replacing it...yet...
