I know of people who have had their LJ read by coworkers and family members since they would easily know the nickname or just look in the search engine for location and for a pic. I make sure that when I post something that I would not want others to read (a rant about work or my wife), I restrict access to reading it.
Had that situation applied to me, I would be forced to use a different nickname and not have my face in a user pic.
