Comfort food.

I was discussing peanut butter with another American yesterday. She described it as comfort food. We were noting the dearth of European interest in peanut butter, the odd unique consistency of British peanut butter, and how remarkable it is that one can eat peanut butter and jelly for lunch (and sometimes dinner, too) for years and not really ( Read more... )

I remember the first time that I made biscuits when I was away from home. It was definitely a comfort, and helped to alleviate some homesickness. And, they turned out quite well.
These days the only food that serves that purpose for me is chocolate!

I was thinking about you as I made them. :c) I don't think I started making these until I met Dennis, and originally tried them as a counterpoint in the hope that I might offer more useful feedback on his creations. I hear they're practically perfected! But whatever the reason I started, the biscuits have been a comfort in most places I live.

When Rich and I began dating, I mentioned comfort food to him and it quickly became apparent that he had no such concept. I gave a description of the psychology of comfort food and he brightened and said, "like tuna fish!"

"Like tuna fish?"

"Of course! Because it reminds you of traveling in a car!"

"Tuna fish in a car?"

"So THAT'S comfort food! Well, what do you know!"

Tuna Fish → Tuna Salad → Tuna Sandwiches → Convenient Yet Nourishing Food → Easy Eats on Road Trips → Quality Time with Friends → Comforting?
