There are a few things - as some of you know - that really, truly upset me about certain Christian subcultures in this country (subcultures which can be found in all Christian traditions; I am not picking on any particular group). Oh excellent way to invert the persecution argument. I usually bring up instances of real persecution of Christians in other countries or religion-based hate crimes against non-Christians in the US, but I think this is much more effective, symbolically.

Absolutely, that's the other side of the argument. I was just thinking about what real persecution of Christians would look like in this country and struck by how ridiculous it was to even imagine any of the things non-gender conforming people have to deal with on a regular basis ever happening to a Christian in this country (because of their faith).

Amen, to this. Or it they really think they're persecuted, they should go try to be a Catholic in China, where people are routinely arrested, tortured, and killed for not adhering to the state church. I seem to recall that there are still some cardinals named in secret over there.
