Abby was very fussy last night and would not go to sleep for more than 10-15 minutes until 6 am. I got 10 minutes of sleep between 11 pm and 6 am. I have slept some since then (had to get up for our midwife's last postpartum visit), but I am still exhausted. I've gotten nothing done today but sleep and feed Abby, and I have a fellowship ( Read more... )

Thanks. I know my mw said it takes 6 weeks - 2 months to really start feeling ok again. It's just much harder to handle when I am running on so little sleep. Fortunately she slept for 5 hours solid last night - I think she was pretty exhausted, too.

That's really, really tough. I hope she (and, therefore, you) get some sleep today!

Have you tried co-sleeping or at least co-napping for a bit? I was able to master feeding Julia while lying down once she got to be about two weeks old. It was a huge life-saver to me. She had colic and reflux at the same time, and wouldn't sleep for more than thirty minutes at night and flat out didn't nap during the day.

Keep your chin up, mama. Things do get better.

(Also - as a sidenote; she might be growth spurting, which could account for fussiness. Try to get shorter, more frequent feedings in and see if it helps.)

We have been co-sleeping/napping, and I have been feeding her for less time but more often. I was feeding her in the side-lying position but stopped for a while when it seemed like it was causing major spit-up issues (i.e., she would spit-up almost everything she had just eaten). But I had to start feeding her in that position again yesterday because I was just too tired to do anything else :p She did sleep last night, fortunately.

Eek, colic and reflux!

I barely remember anything before Julia's six month birthday. I won't scare you with horror stories, but she was (well, is) very high needs. It did get better as everyone kept telling me, though. At the end of the day I was SO PROUD of myself if I had both brushed my teeth and my hair that day. I can't believe I'm about to do it all over again. WTF?

I'm glad you got some rest! Isn't it crazy how one good night can really help?

Yeah, seconding the recommendation to co-sleep and co-nap. It's still the only way I get enough sleep.

I need to do more of the co-napping, but we do co-sleep . . . it was just hard last night because she would only sleep for 5-10 minutes at a time and then WAIL.

I'm already worrying about this. I hope you post again with any solutions, or how it got better! And in the meantime, I hope your little sweetie gives you a break :(
