Sleep study results - no surprises

The doctor who did the sleep study called this afternoon. He says that I have severe sleep apnea (normal is 5 or fewer airway collapses in an hour; the threshold for severe is 20; I had 66 during the study). He's going to prescribe a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine to treat the apnea. He also confirmed that I have restless ( Read more... )

If you can tolerate the CPAP -- some people have a problem with it, I don't -- it will be a wonderful thing for you.

They tried it on me for the second half of the night during the sleep study and it was uncomfortable, but I slept better than I did before before they put the mask on.

The doctor said that he's amazed that I'm not always tired.

66... per HOUR? Ouch! that's um... amazing. I had very few apnea events (about 1 per hour), none of them obstructive. I think I had fewer than the normal leg movements (didn't know until I read your post that _any_ was normal. And although I woke up a lot, it wasn't 66 times per hour... And I _am_ always tired. G'luck with the other appt.
