Surgery update

My surgery is still scheduled for Aug. 25. However, the hospital called today to let me know that my insurance will pay $2,000 and I will need to pay the other $43,000 (yes, they'll pay around 5%).

I need ideas; I don't have that kind of money, especially with Jordi starting college & having just bought a house.

There is a new specialty of self-employment where entrepreneurs use their expertise with The System to help plain folks navigate through the Insurance Benefits System. If there is such in your area, run, do not walk, to them. Your deductible cannot possibly be that high. And since they are willing to cover something, it is obviously not an uncovered procedure, and therefore must be subject to your deductible limits

Carol has some excellent ideas. The other thing to consider is calling the insurance company and pushing back. At one point I spent an afternoon and evening in the ER, and Blue Cross, later, said they'd not cover any of it. I called them, and they pushed back, but in doing so indicated why it was that they were not covering it. I explained why I thought they were wrong, and they looked through the notes and finally found something buried on page 17 that indicated that maybe they just might cover it. They did.
