Not that anyone cares about my stupid opinion, but...

People seem to be flipping out with their reaction to Something Borrowed and I just wanted to ask: what were you expecting?

You all know that Ianto wasn't even meant to be in the picture in the first place.  That he and Jack are having a fling is just a bonus to those people who love that pairing.  No one promised you hearts and flowers, and frankly ( Read more... )

amen to everything you said.

A lot of this fandom has gone of the deep end.

I know and I CALLED IT! (TM Dr. S. T. Colbert D.F.A.)

They're making themselves absolutely miserable and missing the show that they claim to love.

When did they start believing that the Jack/Gwen thing was going to be dropped altogether?

I think what you're writing about is why I've avoided getting involved in fandom for this show. I have no idea what you are talking about and I don't want to know.

You so wouldn't enjoy it. Think: Brian/Michael shippers x 1000 where Brian=Jack, Michael=Ianto, and Justin=Gwen.

It is amusing, though, being completely uninterested in either ship.

I loved this ep! Hugely! And I'm so, so glad I took torch_wood off my flist.

It's not Gwen you hate, it's Jack. Do we really always have to blame the woman?

I maintain that at least 70% of Jack/Ianto shippers would, if they were magically transported into Torchwood, be Gwen. Possibly 75%. And like, Gwen at her absolute Gwenniest.

And speaking of such things, do you think it's possible to make an argument that Tosh's persistence re: Owen is actually GOOD because it is Going After What She Wants and Not Letting Owen Beat Her Down, and that she is not necessarily a soppy doormat at all? Or am I just clutching at straws. :(

I agree. I think they really wouldn't like Ianto if they realized who he actually is.

You're a stronger woman than I for taking the comm off your list.

Which is why I wonder why you're falling for that BS that people are spouting about Tosh as doormat.....

Tosh is in love. Owen is a hard person to love, but he's not undeserving of love. And as sparkledark said to me just last night, Tosh doesn't like people, but she likes Owen.

People cite Ianto's loyalty all the time, but I might argue Tosh is more so, especially now. She should totally should be commended for sticking by Owen. She's not unaware who Owen is, and she's willing to take what Owen is able to give her. She's not going away.

Besides, they're totally made for each other, and Owen does love her. He's just got problems and he's lucky that Tosh is willing to overlook them.

Haha it's all right, I'm not falling for anything but it suddenly occurred to me that she's shifted from being just nice and kind and plucky and hopeful (which gets read as 'doormat'), to full on knowing what she wants and going out to get it, no matter what. It's not even the sticking by him even though he's dead now thing, either, or just that she's willing to take what he'll give her -- because that sort of implies passivity still, like she's still letting him have the upper hand. I love that the closer to Owen she gets, the more she's becomes her own person.

That's a good assessment. She's not "just taking it" from Owen. If she were, she'd have just cowered and hid. She's not being passive at all.

Tosh is doing it like any good woman. Making the man feel like he's in control, without relinquishing her own.

Wait, are you saying Torchwood has gay?

Are you being facetious...? I thought everyone knew!

Yeah there's a lot of gay, but I was very disappointed in it, especially since John Barrowman is so hott. I think it's lame, but the majority of the fandom thinks otherwise.

I did not know! I know nothing about this show. How much gay action is there, on a scale where QAF is a 10 and Will and Grace is a zero?

It's somewhere in the middle, as there has been no on-screen homo sex yet. I hear tell of spoilers that promise something of it.

Boy-Boy Kissing: 5-6 incidents

I'd recommend getting a hold of the eps "Capt Jack Harkness" (1x12) & "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2x01) as a gay entree to the program. You really don't need too much background about Torchwood except that they travel in time and fight aliens in England. It's like a lesser version of Angel.

Again, you may be thrilled otherwise, but I was unmoved by any of those incidences, save the one in Capt Jack Harkness. The main gay ship is a little ............. to me. I'm following a het ship more closely than the others.

Let me know what you think, though.

I think that everyone is forgetting that Jack is, more or less, kinda an asshole. I sure hope Ianto realizes that however, and doesn't let their "dabbling" go to his head with thoughts of long-term relationships. With Jack the way he is, I don't think that's going to happen.

Doesn't it seem like Ianto MUST know all that? He's not stupid. I can't imagine his hoping to be Jack's forever man.
