Torchwood 2x10: From Out of the Rain

I realize I haven't commented on several of the last very awesome episodes and now I feel compelled to talk about the crappy one, but whatever.

I wanted to like this one.  Turn of the century sideshows and fairs and expos are always potentially creepy because of the element of the unknown.  Everyone was this freaky character and do seem to come from ( Read more... )

But we spent far too much time getting to know the villains and it ended up making them silly rather than scary.
Indeed! And the way they finally got rid of them was quite anticlimactic.

But no, the Jack/Ianto show is boring, and so is Ianto. Ianto's just not all that dynamic, and the chemistry between Jack and Ianto isn't all that strong.
I absolutely agree.

The heart-warming scene with the little boy's life they "saved" was ridiculous because that kid is not going to be so smiley in a few seconds when he learns that he's an orphan now. Oh yeah, and by the way, your sisters and your parents died. Sorry! And the projectionist kid is going to be found hanging from the balcony in his parent's theatre tomorrow night.
That pissed me off a lot. And made me sad. I mean, I realize there has to be DRAMA and TRAGEDY, but did they have to kill all those people??

I've been reading other peoples (Jantot people) reviews and they mostly blame the lack of Ianto excitement on bad writing.

I'm not convinced it's ONLY the bad writing in this episode that makes Ianto dispassionate and unexciting.

Can they all please stfu about his weight too? He looks a little bit pudgy and suddenly they don't like the way he looks. Guess he wasn't all that sexy to begin with, maybe.

All right, I'm done bitching. Thank you.

Yeah, the writing isn't all that stellar, but his character has plenty of blah-potential in itself. I dunno, Ianto never really worked for me. I like him a bit more in s2, but nowhere near enough as my flist/TW fandom in general.

(As I jokingly told Erin: this must be how the Rodney/McShep non-lovers must feel. :D)

WHAT. I'm not really in TW fandom, at the fringes of it at best, so I totally missed that line of thinking. I dunno, his looks don't really work for me, but objectively enough, he's quite handsome? And I hadn't even noticed the pudge. :D

Yeah Rachel and I have said the same thing about the non McShep shippers.

TW fandmo really sucks in general...

Like you said, this ep had so much potential for greatness. Honestly? The costuming was brilliant, and if it had been written the right way, it would have been amazing. But somehow it boiled down to they wanted an audience and Pearl is in love with water or something. I don't even know.

Also, TW fandom is ridiculous. In all honesty, I've never really liked Ianto, and I've always wondered why he got more screen time than Tosh. And this ep really pointed me out to that fact. Blerg.
