hi i was looking through a lot of the very old bearded_dragon entries and you posted pictures of your 2 bearded dragons and one was very orange and the other one seemed very brown.
(i am not familiar with bearded dragons at all) do they all eventually get orange, or depending on their mood, or is it just chance in which dragon you pick out. some turn orange and some do not?
A dragon's color is closely, but not always predictably, linked to their genetics. Feng [the Sandfire red/gold X peach hypo aka orange] looks exactly like her mother, right down to size and pattern to color. Sheo, my 'chocolate' beardie, is a Chris Allen Red, a very sturdy and hardy line reknowned for their red/orange. he IS showing some 'rust' color on his head and sides, but retains the same chocolate color. similiar, but not exact to his father. it is hard to tell what a baby will look like from their parents, or even from their baby pictures, at about 1 year that is what their 'true' color is. Like how my brother had blonde hair that later turned brown like his father's. he's tall like his dad, but not the same nose or eyes. Genetics are not random, but unpredictable

thank you for all the help! i did a bit of research and found some colors i LOVED and i want to get this red/orange one that's marked down like $20 because he has a "nipped toe" but i don't think i'll be able to afford it :/
do ones who are sold in regular pet shops tend to be the regular brown ones or do they sell brightly colored ones regularly too?
avoid petstore animals and feeders like the plague. A respectable gecko breeder lost over 50, yes 50, geckos from long-term feeding of petstore crix that had been kept/raised wrong and infested with mold and bacteria, transfering it to the gex over a long period of time until it finally killed them. Animals in petstores are from mills, much like puppy and cat mills, and are inbred and stunted. for $100 you can get a great colored, healthy beardie from a breeder or you can get a sickly beardie that will last a week. really your call. :P anyway, the price of the animal is really nothing compared to what you will spend on vet bills, housing, electricity, bulbs, furtinure, etc. Not to mention beardies will eat you out of house and home on a regular basis. [i breed mice, roaches, supers, and crix and still have a food bill higher than my animals' purchase price monthly
