Appearance: David is tall, thin. Standing at 6', he somehow still manages to seem small. It may be the face and the way he stands, but a lot of people treat him like he's younger than he is. He puts thought into what he's wearing, but not a whole lot of thought. It's not like he keeps track of fashion, but he likes wearing what he's comfortable in and what looks good on him as well. He has a tendency to experiment with what he wears. Some days he'll be wearing a suit, other days he'll be wearing t-shirt and jeans, and still other days he'll wear jeans and a suit jacket. His parents are wealthy, and they send him a generous amount every month to keep his mouth shut allow him to have what he wants. His bangs have a habit of falling in his face, and he's never considered cutting them off as much as they bothered his father. It's a comfort almost, like they're something he can hide behind.
Personality: David is on the shy side. He tends to be quiet, because people make him nervous, which has more to do with the fear that one of them is actually his ward. He's the student that sits in the back corner of the class, who few people really notice, and he likes it that way for the most part. He likes being able to sit back and observe the world without participating in it. It makes life more like watching a movie and that's safe. David carries around a notebook with him almost everywhere. It's usually a small notepad for ease of carrying, and he'll write observations, ideas, poems, story ideas on the pages inside. It's not uncommon for him to get lost in his writing or in the ideas that he's picking up.
He has completely rejected the angelic side of him. David associates angels with his father, and his father hasn't generated the best opinion of them for David. He hates the idea of finding his ward. He doesn't want to be tied to someone for the rest of his life, become a bit part in their story instead of living his own as he wants.
David has a habit of always thinking of the worst case scenario, which he'll then worry about for days or weeks. It's why he realizes that his ward could be a person that does bad things like murder or torture, and he doesn't want to be forced to protect someone like that. He doesn't want the responsibility of someone else's life in his hands. David doesn't think he can handle it. It's why he never looks anyone in the eyes. He's developed a talent for looking right over their head or at their chin instead to make it look legitimate, but he puts every effort into avoiding the eyes and will often look down or away from someone than directly on.
Despite rejecting that guardian angel side, there's plenty that points to him being one. He is protective of people that he cares about. Hell, he is protective of people that he's just met on the street. It's always been present in him, but since he turned sixteen, that protectiveness has been exacerbated. He's perceptive and takes in small details, and he can notice what the average person is feeling, even when they don't say a word. He knows instinctively sometimes what someone needs if they're feeling down, and he tends to come through with it. He's compassionate, largely thanks to his mother's influence, and he knows very basics about first aide and fighting, thanks to his father.
History: David was born in the suburbs around Topeka, Kansas. His father, Benjamin, is an archangel, hoping to raise the perfect, strapping clone of himself. His mother, Lisa, is a human, who has an archangel father who is an old buddy of Benjamin. Benjamin has known Lisa for her entire life, but obviously it wasn't until she grew older that he took a romantic interest in her and asked for her hand in marriage. Lisa had been in love with his father since she was twelve. Yeah, it's... yeah.
Since he was young, David has been shy and passive. It was always something that was disappointing for his father who wanted a son who'd be charismatic and aggressive like he was. David had a bully in the second grade. Instead of fighting him, David talked to him and eventually befriended him. The bully's name was Tim, and he became David's best friend for life. From second grade through high school, they were incredibly close.
When Tim turned sixteen, he became a demon. David knew what this meant, according to his father, and he was terrified of becoming an archangel too. When David turned, he became an angel. At sixteen, they formed a small group with a few other students in the high school there. There were two demons, four supernaturals, and David. David dated a senior, a fire elemental in the group named Lucy. Everything seemed perfect that year.
It was the next year that things shifted. Tim had a problem with stealing. It was a compulsion for him, and he'd been doing it since middle school. One night during the summer, he broke into someone's house to take something. It was always something small that he took, but the owner of the house woke up. Tim panicked, hit them, and killed them. Tim came to David with blood on his hands. Unfortunately, David's father had listened in.
David's father is a part of a group of archangels that work to hunt demon, all scum, but only when they've been confirmed in doing something wrong. David met Tim in the woods to give him money to leave, and his father's group followed them there. They killed Tim. If nothing else, it was quick and painless for David's best friend. Feathers flying in the wind around them. His father told him to lie about it. The court system here is filled with angels, and they'll get the real story anyway.
David lied for as long as he could, every wince looked as though it fit with the pain that loss caused him. Eventually, he was tired of lying. He couldn't be in the same room with his father after that night, seeing what he'd seen. A year ago, his mother sent him to Chicago to live with his aunt and uncle, against the wishes of his father who insisted that he should 'man up' about it, this is what happens when an angel befriends a demon.
Because he took so much time off of school to deal with his grief and guilt, although he is 18, he will be starting in the fall as a senior at Looney High.
