It. Was. Awesome!!!!
Oh god. The people were awesome and friendly and enthusiastic. The con staff were running around like the proverbial blue-arsed flies trying to get everything done, but still had big ol' shit-eating grins on their faces.
The con hall was approximately a billion degrees. Even I was roasting with my body temp of about -5. And in the Blaze cosplay it was a bit like being in an oven. Totally worth it, though.
I finally met the wonderful and charming
taranea. It was completely awesome to meet my writing partner in person. We chatted a lot about fic and were trying to one-up each other with evil things to do to characters in our fics. At the con I fairly quickly ran into the amazing 'Forgotton Muse,' - who is not only an awesome writer on ff.net but also a great artist, too! Damn multi-talented people! :P
There were loads of great cosplayers. I was terribly impressed by the Sally Acorn fursuit (though concerned she was going to actually die in there) the Charmy Bee, Big the cat and Rouge costumes were also awesome.
And special mention has to go to the lone Sonic cosplayer, who turned out a be a lovely person who goes by the LJ name
bottlemilk. Ye Sheffield folk on my flist can expect to meet her in September, since she's studying up here. Yay. :)
greyfore had lots of fun getting photo'd a lot with his emerald and the whiteboard he borrowed from
multiclassgeek, on which he wrote 'Will Chaos Control for Emeralds'. He's a loon, but I love him *kiss*.
Didn't get to play Sonic 4 or Sonic Colours - lines were just too damned long. Misha queued up for Sonic 4, though, and said it was great, and felt like what it was - a pure sequel to Sonic 3/S&K. Which works for me.
Got one of my StC comics signed by artist Nigel Dobbyn, who is a really nice bloke who told me some cool things about artistic techniques involving watercolours. Bought a Crush 40 t-shirt and some more badges for the badge jacket (there is totally still room, shut up :p)
Me and Greyfore managed to get in the signing queue early enough to get our stuff signed by Jun and Johnny. I got my copy of 'Sonic Adventure' signed and Grey got his 'Lost and Found' Shadow the Hedgehog soundtrack album signed. Squee!
Then the main event. The thing I had been waiting for. The most awesome thing in the entire world.
Crush 40. Live in Concert.
It was... it was... gods, I don't even have the words. I shouted myself hoarse screaming along to to the songs. The atmosphere was totally electric, I was jumping up and down and punching the air with my fist and singing along. Johnny was just so awesome and funny and charismatic on stage, and Jun is just a rock god. Simple as. They played 'Open Your Heart' and 'What I'm Made Of', my two all-time fave Crush 40 songs. I was almost in tears of joy by the end of the gig. I've never had an experience like that. Ever. As I said at the time, if a bus hit me on the way home I would die happy having been at that gig and seen Crush 40 live.
Thing is, the story doesn't end there. Oh no. After we were all kicked out of the con venue, a whole bunch of us decamped down the street to the Vesbar were we drank and ate food and chatted and laughed until almost midnight. There were such an awesome group there. I was exhausted but didn't want it to end. Particular amusing highlight was watching
greyfore turn Taranea and
bottlemilk to jelly with his Shadow voice. Hee.
Then it was sadly over, so I went back to
zoeiona's place and slept like a brick.
And now I'm back home, listening to Sonic music over my speakers, having just spent an hour or so playing 'Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing' to feed my Sonic addiction even further. I'm poorer, but happier and I've made some new friends.
Right, now onwards to the preparation for Auto Assembly...
