Why can't people help themselves?

So I went to chair a meeting tonight. I met a guy waiting outside for the doors to open. I'll try to shorten the story because I'm tired. The guy has an Ivy League education. He just left a detox center after staying for a whopping two days. He was quite foggy but I believe he was sober. He told me that he had no where to stay for the night

The hardest lesson in the world is that people grow at their own rate. I'm told that once that's internalized, dealing with people is significantly easier.

Agreed. And I know that. I would say "but that doesn't make the situation any less frustrating." But it actually has made it less frustrating. Hopefully the dude will find his place.
