What is Genfic to us?
Gen is a term given to a piece of writing that is character centric. It focuses primarily on inner/outer struggles and general relationships with others, rather than romantic relationships between characters.
Can I write various characters?
Yes! The more the merrier! But Genfic is different than shipping! Your primary focus is to explore a character and the dynamics with others, not romantic or sexual inter-action.
I was writing gen, but it ended up hinting more at a potential ship, is that alright?
Yes! As long as the ship isn’t established/acted on. There’s nothing like some good clean UST to make a character really think about what’s going on.
My fic ended up being about a ship. What now?
Be proud! You finished a story! Simply swap out the Gen prompt with one in the Shipping table, and put an Author’s Note in the intro to your fic. This isn’t about us telling you ‘you can’t do that,’ these prompts are merely to help inspire you. (It doesn’t always work how we plan it, ne?)
