Now that we've escaped, it's so much easier to see how the so-called Patriotism and love of country is entirely mis-placed in the US. Nationalism nearly everywhere else in the world is focused on the good of a country and pride in what it stands for and it's principles. For the US, it's all about competition routed in sports metaphors. It's not about the US being good, it's about everyonce else being "bad" and that the US needs to squash anything that "isn't American." As long as those in the US continue to put their heads in the sand and refuse to look at or even consider different ways of life, outlooks or priorities that aren't spoon-fed to them by the government or media, it won't change.

And I'll feel very safe, mentally and morally, looking down on it from the North.
